I had this problem with game versions 1.04 - 1.10. I couldn´t find an exact solution, but things were worse when I had many different custom ship types in the shipyard. With the default types or ships consisting of only few components the game performance was okay for a while. After an hour or so it went down, but then I saved, reloaded and could continue. I haven´t encountered this issue in 1.2 yet...
Galaxor
Codecritter, after closing the game and reloading the savegame I can play at normal speed for a while. After a few turns the scratching starts - at first there are only single lags, but once the first signs have occurred, the situation gets worse really fast. Anyway I´ve sent a savegame and my debug file to your support. Thanks for your efforts in advance...
Okay, here´s some more info from my side: -) The problem occured after installing a Beta3 and is still occurring with the new Beta4 version. When I upgraded to Beta3 I also downloaded an saved the "Imperial Warships shipset" hull set in the according folders. This is the only mod I am using. -) I deleted the mod from both locations, but that didn´t help - however in my savegame the ships I created with that mod were still available though. After 10 minutes or so the scratc
Upgrading to Beta 4 didn´t improve the situation for me...
I just updated the game to the latest Beta, but the problem is still there. Map size is normal in that case, and in earlier games I sometimes played on small maps.
Double post - sorry!
Hello, since installing one of the latest Beta versions I´m encountering the following problem: The start and early phases of empire building run smoothly, but when it comes to the early midgame, the game performance suddenly drops so far making the game unplayable. The framerate becomes ridiculously low and the sound is just hacking like an old stuck vinyl record. When I quit, restart Galciv and reload the game it works fine for a few turns until the troubl

Hello! I finished in March 2195, and here´s my story about it. From an economic view, this was the easiest game I ever played. The nearby tech resources helped me to gain a technological lead from the beginning on, so I was able to sell tons of techs for huge amounts of money. Due to my thick purse, I produced almost all trade goods and built most of the galactic wonders. My alliance strategy was simple: Build all available trade routes to a certain AI, give away a few gift
Ok, I´ve sent my game to you, Michael. I won in March 2195, Torians and Altarians are no more... An AAR can be found in the discussion thread. GxR
I'm interested to play but was rather busy lately.
Those gigantic maps seem to consume some time...;) [Message Edited]
Bump! ;) Hello! Please wait for me, my gaming PC´s mainboard crashed, so I hope I can continue and finish the GOTM as soon as I have my system up running again.
Speaking of the tech tree, I again would like to deposit my wish to finally include the cloaking tech into the game. In my inagination, playing with this tech could work like the submarines in Empire, if you remember this oldie.
It would be sort of interesting, though, to know the correct formula if anyone knows it.
I remember a thread where the formula was posted(not by a developer) and discussed. I think the main topic was a rant about the PQ ability nerf coming with the 1.03 version - but as I don´t know the topic name, I wasn´t able to find it...
Hm, I thought the number is only rounded down after all benefits have been added...the calculation doesn´t make a difference between PQ 15 and 24 though... Btw, a complete and useful table about PQ ability and its modifiers can be found in this thread: http://www.galciv.com/forum.asp?BID=GF&id=78384 [Message Edited]
Good Morning! I finished my game in Nov 2196, so here´s my story: I was very satisfied with my colonization phase. Nice PQ bonuses forced me to the evil path soon. I was able to secure all systems around and above Sol, so the Drengins were caught in the upper left corner beween the Yor and my empire with nowhere to go. Their only purpose till extermination was to be my trade buddies with three maxed out trade starbases along the routes. I also grabbed the two stars in the lo
Hello! Thank you for the game Michael, I just uploaded my file to Apolyton. Time to finish and a short AAR will be in the discussion thread. Hmm,a little suggestion for a future GOTM: How about playing with an advanced start, where the contestants have to master a certain situation at the beginning...for example a Fundamentalists rebellion? Hmm, I can´t imagine a more simple ship design system than offered with Spaceward Ho! or AC. The huge number of unit variants in AC even without doing modifications made it difficult to overlook, but it didn´t ruin the AI or the game...however I do remember inventing an almost invincible Psi-Air-Marine-Amphibious-Graviton-Flak-Particle-Chaos-Infantry ;)
The combat system is too simple for ship design beeing senseful! So please leave it out!
That depends on how a ship design is realised. Alpha Centauri has a similar combat system, but still you can construct your own vehicles. A complex ship construction like in Stars! or MOO2 would not fit into Galciv, but a simple design system where you can customize the given ship parameters(attack, defense, speed,...) would be a good enhancement. I also like the idea to g
Anyways, I started playing the GotM and yes, it's gonna become a tough one since the starting position only looks good at the very beginning.
Hehe, that´s true...
Hello! Thank you for putting up the game, Michael. I´ll download it right away and give it a try!
Hmm...a nice surprise...and how close...how very, very close.... :D With that result, I´m really looking forward to the next GOTM, thank you, Michael, and keep the games coming...you have a new one at hand, don´t you?! The idea to include some rules or limitations about alignments, victory conditions or something else sounds good...shouldn´t be too restrictive though... [Message Edited]
Oh, sorry, post #34 is nonsense...another save game... [Message Edited]
I needed only 14 years more - cultural victory in 2202 - let there be others around... ;)
