June Game of the Month is now up

http://home.epix.net/~mcasey

While the AIs are all set to Normal, I think this one should be a bit harder than last month. The map will likely put you in an underdog position in the beginning of the game.

Please let me know if you have any comments, suggestions, etc. about the game or website. But be gentle on the website, it's the first one I've ever made. :)

Good luck everyone, and please try NOT to give anything away in this thread before July 1st!

Glad to see we have a few more players. I was getting worried for a while!

There doesn't seem to be anyone playing who sticks to the "normal" or so level on this board anymore, so the next one will be, at the very least, set to "Intelligent" difficulty.

If I can swing it timewise, I'll try to set up two per month starting in July for as long as we have interested players.

You around, Ellestar? I could use those galciv.reallyrules.com ftp passwords, because I'll be changing ISPs soon and will have to vacate the current site...

Intelligent would be the most accessible to most Galcivers, Michael. I support an Intelligent GOTM for our next one. I suggest we add specific conditions and house rules for next game to spice things up.

Pls do continue with GOTMs. I will certainly try to support this.

Yellow Sign,

I played as if it were at a higher difficulty so I found myself far ahead rather quickly. Then it is a matter of building up sufficient forces to crush those aliens under my feet ;) If Staffa had played, I'm sure he would have finished it even faster with a Starfighter or Corvette rush.

I was wanting to give this a try but had a question re:Ironman mode. Are you meaning don't reload when something bad happens etc. (which I don't do) or are you meaning play the game straight through. I am assuming you mean the first - but wanted to clarify as I want to play with the same conditions as everyone else.
GOTM is a great idea by the way. A cool future one would be a single sector (or single system) challenge on a tiny/small map.

Yes, that's the idea Jeff. No reloading/restarting except the loading that takes place in between sittings/sessions.

Imagine that you don't have the save/load function. The comp saves for you when you stop and continues the game for you when you restart.

btw if anyone wants an utterly impossible maso game, I've got one terrible start stored somewhere (kind of you start cornered with a single star systems, the carinoirds for neighbours, and no stars that can be reached without extending your range).

I know what star system you meant. It was, indeed, a very important one. With one turn different timing, I'd probably have played very differently.

I only needed 14 years more - Alliance victory in 2202 - no need to wipe out the universe

I needed only 14 years more - cultural victory in 2202 - let there be others around... ;)

One more bump before this thread rides off into the sunset.

Just a reminder that folks have one week left to submit your games. So far, we've only had four players. Surely there are a few more people out there who might want to give this competition a try?

i plan to, my first game crashed on me near the beginning. but soon i will enter...

first gotm didn't have that many submitted either but plenty of posts in the thread.

Come on and participate people.

The Game of the Month is a much better way of comparing your skills vis-a-vis other players than the Metaverse. This month's challenge at a Normal difficulty is very accessible both for newbies and vets.

Take up the challenge and see if you can beat the 10 year military victory that I managed.

That's funny. The zip file is Ray_June03_GOTM or something. I still have it so I'll upload again.

Ray: Don't forget to post on link to the saved game here:

Otherwise I won't know where to find it. :)

Thanks, I'm new to Apolyton so not too sure how to do this right. What I did the last round was to click on the upload link in your GOTM page and uploaded the game.

This time round, I will try to do what the rest did in that thread you just posted.
