Will the Tech Tree be changed.

Here is an Example,

I can go for Battleship with out have the lesser ships.
Should you not be forced to research lesser ships.

I hate to harp on how great the OS/2 game was but the tech tree seemed to make much more sense with that game. You were forced down a clear path Evil vs Good and one research project naturely led to the next.

Not sure why you would ahve to research the lesser ships? They all would have very different uses and styles. You do have to research the support technologies.

Having to research the earlier ships would be similar to having to build the earlier ships to gain the experience. That could be a much more realistic approach.

On the tech tree, I would love to see technologies linked to events. For example,
improved medical technologies (+moral, +PQ or +pop growth) only becoming available to research if a medical emmergency occurred,
improved ship types linked to achieving a certain level of experience with a previous ship (giving better strategies and ships designed to use those strategies),
improved diplomancy options only becoming available with interaction with aliens.

Experience is important.
Wooden Ships came before Iron Sides which came before battleships.

Learn to build BattleAxe, Corvette, BattleCruiser, Battlehammer before you can learn to build battleships.

Lots of technologies do nothing I agree linking technologies to events would be great.

I've just installed 1.09(a)and see where left clicking on the research tree takes you to the tech navigator. I know where the tech screen is but can'y find the research tree within the game itself.

Something else about the Tech Tree.

In GCX Beta 2, the following change was made:

+ Technology pace is significantly increased -- techs cost less to research now so you will go through the tech tree faster.

And Frogboy's response to gamers who expressed concern about this:

The tech tree doesn't move THAT much more quickly.

Previously, each subsequent tech added 2% to the next tech's cost. Now it's only 1%. Now, that may not seem like a big change but what it means is that games won't necessarily end with battleship or dreadnought techs. We wanted to set things up such that Avatars and Excaliburs and Overlords would come into play.

Interesting.

Personally, I'd love it if there were more different types of ships, with less huge quality differences between them.

As it stands, getting Battleships early is a huge advantage, and being first to Dreadnoughts is fantastic. If there were more intermediary steps we might see less lopsided games

It's not unrealistic for a country or an *alien race* to not build defensive ships in lieu of all offensive ships.

Speaking of the tech tree, I again would like to deposit my wish to finally include the cloaking tech into the game.
In my inagination, playing with this tech could work like the submarines in Empire, if you remember this oldie.
