There are 2 kinds of games... those you know you have already won before you start (such as SMAC), and those you don't (Slots, Craps, Yahtzee, etc).
Not true. There are occasionally gems of games that come along and pose a real threat. Take a look at this game of mine - bear in mind that we were playing under varient rules (no ships ever) to make the game more challenging and fun. http://www.network54.com/Hide/Forum/message?forumid=189557&messageid=1027379412

Happy Aussie Day people! I'm happy that Steve Waugh got Aussie of the year, although I'm also sad that Phillipousis lost his game :(. Time for Hewitt to kick butt, and for Zimbabwe to crumble and Brett Lee take 5/10. -Smegged
I hope these games go through guys, cause I'll be the no 1 spectator :). Unfortunately, due to my own current flakeyness, I will not be able to join any of the teams. Please note that I haven't managed to sneak enough time in to play any galciv for a couple of weeks, though I hope to remedy that situation this week. -Smegged
wowsers, this is the most positive stuff I've heard about Blizzard Entertainment for a very very long time from Sirian. My opinion on the current topic: 60k should be the limit of scores acheiveable. However, gigantic maso games should be able to score higher than this 60k, with scores being truncated AFTER the win type multiplier is applied. Also they should bump up the multiplier for tech victory to .8 or .9. Additionally, there should be a small penalty for disab
Welcome to the couple of new faces in our empire. We now have 23 in our insane posse! -Smegged
Bam Bam said it all. So long Sudy Nym, and good luck with whatever life has in store for you. Nice article Wombat. Had me laughing out loud in parts :).

Wowsers, no RB action for over 24 hours. Everyone must be too busy watching the cricket :). Too bad Australia got beaten by those evil Indians! -Smegged

She's not only good, she's nice, humble, charming and Australian. What more could you want in a Metaverse leader :D. Now all we need to do is convince her to travel to Realms Beyond her ordinary Gal Civing, since she's already Realms Beyond all the other Gal Civers. All bad puns aside, congratulations on a gargantuan effort Ginata. :CONGRAT: :CONGRAT: :CONGRAT: :CONGRAT:
Mate I had a bloody good laugh at some of dem. But I don't think dem damn Yanks will ever understand that LBW rule. Hell, I have a hard enough time with it. But hey, us RudeBoys have a Yank and a Canadian as our two top scorers, so I ain't complainin'
I think I've temporarily taken care of that Sirian :). I may even fire a few more volleys before the night is over. You see, I just finished my summer job, got a set of braces and basically have nothing better to do :).
I just posted a 48k Huge Maso win. My most time intensive technology: Defense Theory LOL

Did I mention how much I love this game anytime recently :). I haven't had this much fun with a game since I installed Starcraft onto my system many moons ago...
I know what's happened! The Fellowship of the Ring got the random event where they gain "an item of power" that "increases their strength" until they conquer the galaxy. Hmmmm I wonder if the makers of Galciv knew about the true power of the One Ring when they made the metaverse. Spec Forces need a Frodo and Sam so that they can cast the One Ring into the Fires of Mt Doom to destroy it forever. Or at least an Arwen to distract all the men in the Fellowship.... -Smegged
Most certainly Sirian. I've now beaten Galciv as every political party. I'm pretty sure I've beaten Maso as all parties as well. I actually really enjoy changing the strengths and weaknesses of my civ between each game. It makes each one distinct, seperate, memorable and unique. btw, I posted the game that beat the 1.5 million barrier for team RB :). -Smegged
'sob I'm still recovering from seeing Steve Waugh retiring yesterday to successfully wage war on you guys :( . Oh well, I guess some Galciv (and alcohol) may help me forget. :P
Fashion smashion, it's all about the emotionless death glare baby :HOT:
Well my last game was even more odd. Early on I went evil, right down to demonic 0. I ended up getting an alliance with the saintly Altarians and good Torians and together we wiped out the Dregnin for an alliance victory. Which brings up my tenth win, my first evil win, and my first huge map win. I had to ctrl+n once though since I had a runaway Dregnin next door who declared war on me before I'd even managed to research my 4th tech. Yay, I'm now Neutral (as I should be with the amo
hmmm, I wish they'd fix that Neutral is really chaotic good bug. It bugs me when I see a game where I've remained neutral all game except for a couple of points come up as chaotic good. In fact if the metaverse recorded it correctly I'd have all bar one of my scores as a neutral score. -Smegged
Well that game was exhilerating. I played a game on a large/common galaxy, with diplo picks and populists government, since I wanted an easy game. Well how wrong could I be! This game was not easy at all. I started in on the eastern side of the galaxy. Now in my last few games I'd had the Altarians as the runnaway AI. So I chose good picks, except for one massive PQ bonus. After the initial land grab, I was morality 47. It was then that I discovered who the real runaway AI was t
Nice AAR Sirian. What autosave settings do people have their games on. Earlier this evening I wanted to reload my game (the Yor had gotten a planet in my territory due to me sending colony ships in the wrong direction). However, I set my autosave to 4 turns and so not even "previous autosave" was enough for me to change the course of history. Also, how many games do you have to win to show up on the average scores leaderboard? Because I'm not even on there at all at the mome
Hmmm I didn't think of that. Nonetheless I started a new game and eeked out a 40k win using the same settings (except rare instead of abundant - for speed). Time for bed now methinks. Thanks for the heads up Jaxom, I'll bear that in mind in the future. -Smegged
Well I'm a bit pissed off at the moment. I just spend around 4 hours playing a large/Maso/Abundant map, nearly to completion (and mil conquest victory), when the game crashed out on me. When I tried to reload the autosaves the tech screen that comes up from an autosave was blank, and the background that the stars/ships etc are normally on was all red. When I tried to click to the menu the game crashed again. *sigh* There goes several hours work and 40-60k Metaverse points. If it's any
