Demigod Clans - Clan pacov

Demigod Clans - Clan pacov

There's another post that cover's alot of this, but this thread is specifically for clan pacov.  Here's the other thread:

http://forums.demigodthegame.com/374590

Here we go:  there aren't alot of demigod clans out there.  The game CURRENTLY has less than 500 people that play together at any given time online.  I can't back that number up, but I think that's fairly reasonable based on what I've seen.  Out of those 500 or so players, many of those players many have bad connections and some outright cheat.  You probably don't want to play with them.  I probably don't either.  So, getting a group of people together that don't cheat or have bad connections is a pretty good idea IMO.  Plus, coordinating a team in demigod is MUCH easier if you have voicechat.  Let's do that too. So - players with good connections + players that use voicechat (at least to listen in) = clan pacov.  Its pretty much an all welcome scenario so long as you fit that criteria.  Here's the info you need to join voicechat:

Here is where you can download the client (its free):   http://www.ventrilo.com/download.php

Here are instructions on how to use ventrilo to connect to a server:  http://www.ventrilo.com/setup.php

Here is the public vent info:

Lagwars vent
Hostname:  Oxygen.typefrag.com
Port:  50216

Once you join the vent, PM someone in clan pacov.  Each of our channels are password protected but there are plenty of public channels to idle in and people clan pacov check out the pub channels from time to time.

Here's what we deliver.  You get more balanced games with people that don't cheat.  I regularly balance games out to encourage more people to play with and against us.

Ask questions if you have them and any clan pacov specific discussions belong here (casual, serious, etc).

Clan Pacov Mission Statement:

Clan pacov isn't about forming team super premade.  Its about frequently getting fun games going and occassionally getting some really competitive games going as well.  We welcome like minded, non-devisive individuals interested in playing games on a semi-regular basis.  We don't welcome people who cheat at games.  We will mix up teams to make things fun.  We will all generally be using voicechat.  We will play with and against each other.  We will play with and against other clans.

FYI - the clan channel is most active between 6PM-2AM EST daily, but people are on all hours of the days

Well, as much as I would enjoy playing Sins or DoW with you guys, Lent is starting this week, and I'm giving up video games.... All... of... them... :(

Hmmm... clan pacov... I wonder if things have gone slightly awry.  My initial goal was to get more and more people playing together.  Ideally playing with me, kalel, trouser, jon, and paint.  But now I see that those kiddos prefer to play primarily in a diff channel.  In short, fail on pacov's part.  I'm glad we've got as many people as we do willing to play with/against now, but I'm definitely bummed that my original clanmates don't hang out in the channel as much... the whole point of going public was to mix things up and get more peeps in the community together.  Instead, i get to play less with the original fellas.  Oh well... I'll look into fixing that if possible.

I was stoked to hang out in your channel at first... got a few real fun 4v4's in and some silly all reg games and such and it was a real blast to get some balanced vent games going.

Now I go in and you're off in a subsection of the clan channel playing some other crappy game which is not Demigod.  Demigod  is the only game good and true Christians such as myself play, and any other game is for communists and mental perverts.  God has punished you for your heretical blasphemyness and your flock has left you.

Actually in all seriousness, I'd like to get into Sins cause it seems like almost a fleshed out version of an old ANSI game my friends and I were addicted to back in high school... you kids are all way too young to remember Trade Wars 2000 I'm assuming?

Well now Thundercles it depends on when & where you were playing tade wars 2000 since that game was released in the 80's.   I'm assuming were in high school in the late 80's early 90's?  Which puts you on par with a lot of us old folks lol.

pondering closing my vent channel down.  Kalel and some of the peeps i used to play with apparently didn't like the public aspect of the clan.  As a result, kalel opened up his own channel that's more or less a private vent.  So, that puts me in the spot of either joining them if I want to play with or convincing them to come back to the other channel.  Anyway, in the meantime, I've set up some additional private game channels in the clan pacov vent for just the core folks.

Awesome! (in regards to AVP)

Im trying to convince kalel to get BC2 as well.

In regards to the vent, i would like to see the openness of the channel remain.

I think more has to do with the new video games that have hit in the last couple of weeks, (ie. bioshock, BC2's beta, AVP releases today etc. etc.)

And most know that i've been working on a video for my wife's theater for the last 6 weeks or so that's been eating up a lot of my time.  It's around 75% complete so im hoping to be mostly done with it in the next couple of weeks. But i digress.

It's great to see a lot more people playing and on vent etc. and yea, people float between pacov, GM, GL etc. but its fun to hang out with them and be able to play more organized games.

About Vent, I've spoken with Trouser and KALEL and stuff about this a few times, so I can't speak for jon nor am I speaking on KALEL's or Trouser's behalf but at least they know my opinion and perhaps agree on it partially.

First of all, I'm not an extremely competitive player. I enjoy winning, yes. I do try to win, yes. But I don't "play to win" in that that is all I care about. If I lose I'm really not all that upset about it or anything and I'm liable to do stupid stuff all the time. I don't take the vast, vast majority of my games "seriously" and put in my A-game because that's just not the type of person I am. So do I want some sort of "super ultra premade"? No, that isn't really something that I care about and I've /pugged/ with uber-ultra newbs before. I don't mind, persay, playing with people I don't know.

However, I do have an issue associating with people when I play with X person who thinks that because they are on vent and playing with us it magically makes them awesome and unstoppable. I know it's sort of the opinion of the community (premades are uber-crazy-unbeatable players you stand in awe of) and perhaps that is just that opinion manifesting itself. However, it's really frustrating for me. On the EXACT other hand, you have these people who think they are special-sauce now but play /exactly/ like it's a pug game (read: little to no teamwork and more or less ignore anything I say). If you want to associate with us, then I need to be able to trust you. And sometimes I feel like that isn't the case with allllll these random people I don't know.

So. Let's say I'm playing games with Thunder and we are getting random people as our thirds. I play like a normal pug and I more or less ignore them the entire game and me and Thunder go around and win ^^; and, of course, I'm making fun of them on Vent because I'm a hedgehog like that D: All of a sudden this awkward third person is in vent and then it just throws me off.

A lot of these random people can play in the public vents "upstairs". I mean. That's what public vents are for, right? The purpose of "Clan Pacov" is just a vent that people can get in really quick with a simple password to play demigod with. But it's still, basically, public. Which is you know. What Clan Pacov's "clan mission" is: to be open, do alternate form games, get the chance for random puggers to expierence vent WITH OTHER RANDOM PUGGERS (read: not me).

I mean, I know it's a bit of a joke how much I abesolutely hate being bothered in game. But, ultimately, I play on Vent to play with people I know. I'll play the occasional random game and I do enjoy playing in-house games with whoever (eg, I'm fine with playing with random CP members against other random CP members. That's not the issue here). But if I want to play with KALEL some day and we are having a hard time getting a game going, we talk to someone upstairs and the first thing we here is that wonderful word "balance".

Now, I'm fine playing against KALEL and I've done it plenty of times. But, I'm in Vent to play with KALEL, not against him. I don't want to always play against KALEL/Pacov/Trouser. And I do enjoy playing with a few of the members there as well.

I've also said a lot of times that I want some form of organization. I want a roster, I want to know who these people are. Right now we are just some open public Demigod channel (which is sort of what pacov intended it to be), but /I'm/ not part of it. I mean, I'm sure that the majority of the community considers the whole lot of CP to be a hilarious joke.

The name is also... :-/ I mean, I know that CP was originally made up as a joke with the old-timers and it was funny then. Now that I want this to be more serious ... well yeah. That's just sorta inappropiate I guess. I will completely confess that I am a vain, fickle hedgehog and the fact that the name "Osmium Shift" is 1000 times cooler I am more inclined to play down there than up in CP.

KALEL mentioned a compromise of making Osmium more intended for CP's "other" games (AvP, Bioshock 2, Battefield 2, whatever), whereas the vent channels in CP are exclusively dedicated to Demigod, as long as we are given some sort of Private Game for the Oldtimers and some of the more competitive/skilled players in CP.

So this is what /I/ want:

- Some form of organization (we need an offical roster of top-players/oldtimers, people who just play on CP but don't intend to play seriously and just want to use it as an open vent, and people who want to get competitive but aren't quite there yet).

I want people to know that I am an elitist fuckface (with a dash of hedgehog antisocialness) and I don't need to play by their rules, or that I am their "equal" or whatnot and have no obligations to play with or against them, and heaven forbid if they pop into my channel and ask me if I'm in game.

- We need some form of official tryout methods to elevate people between statuses.

I don't want to turn this into Boy Scouts but we do need some form of a pecking order here. I need to know what I can and can't do (other than what society tells me. Like I can't randomly cuss out people).

What I think needs to be done in the short term:

- Removing Demigod channels from Osmium

- Creating a number of Private Game channels with different passwords for different "levels" of players. I know that hte old Private Game 1 channel was reserved for old-timers only. But I need to know if it's okay if I bring Thunder into Private Game 1 but not Private Game 3, for example.

- Roster and just planning more organization so we get more serious

- Eliminating non-demigod channels and moving them to Osmium.

- Having a serious-face chat about what exactly the future of what our clan is and what our intentions for it are so we all get on the same page.

Well. the clan pacov name will have to go if we actually get serious.  Something with less of my name in it will be a good start, but Osmium shift = too silly in my opinion.  The public aspect of the clan channel appears to be somewhat self-sufficient at this point... read: none of the original folks are playing right now, but there are 8 in channel.  If we cared enough to get more serious, then we'd just start with the core folks (kalel, trouser, paint, jon, pacov, hedgie) and see who's on board.  Then we could add to the clan based on who we all agreed upon.  Plus, jon and paint are already in a clan.  I'm not used to this whole clan system and am more used to simply playing games with my buds, so I don't know if its a big deal at all to be in multiple clans, or what.

The casual atmosphere is what I like about clan Pacov. You aren't out to make a killer dream team that stomps everyone in existence, you're trying to make the game more fun for more people. I can see making some sort of setup for serious games vs. more casual games, but I think if you were to create an exclusive clan that mandated tryouts and a contract drawn up in blood, CP would lose its charm. I agree with Hedgie's post, and I think you should form some sort of system with officers and the like to flesh out some loose structure and ensure everyone gets competitive games. Whatever direction you decide to go in, good luck Pacov

"The casual atmosphere is what I like about clan Pacov."

I'm not trying to remove the "all welcome" feel to CP and I'd like the public channels to remain and people to continue handing out the password left and right and such. However, I feel like people need to realize that if you're just randomly dropping in for a game that you're a "guest". You aren't a "member".

Getting a roster going and finding out how serious people want to be (like I said: serious top-level players, medium level players who want to get to top tier but just aren't there yet and whoever-level players who really don't care about serious games and just want to play) is a good step to a compromise. If you don't want to participate in mandated tryouts and a contract drawn in blood, that's totally fine you'll never be barred from Public. But, if we were to start doing that we would also get a clan tag that would be "reserved" for those people. For what that is worth.

Because, like I said. I don't enjoy all Rook games or all Reg games or whatever. I mean, I'll play one occasionally and have some fun with it, but it isn't that "great" of a time for me. I do enjoy 4v4s and 5v5s, however, and I still think that is a big selling point of CP is because of our sheer numbers we can do lag-free 4v4s and 5v5s without too much of an issue. That's not something a lot of other people get to do.

I do know that being in multiple clans is a no-no. But, the fact all 3 clans are sharing a single common vent makes things kinda funny at the same time. I'm not 100% sure whta the protocal would be.

This is how I see the three clans atm (which may not be totally the case):

1- CP: casual, all welcome clan who's really only super strength comes in sheer numbers

2- gL: focuses on players who play a LOT. Eg, several guys who seem to be on all the time. Sort of how CP was before we went public.

3- GM: focuses on getting on the bestest in the game.

Shhhhh I know :P . I actually just changed from a swift anklet build (for survivability) to heaven's wrath and am still getting used to the whole, "Ahhh UB is faster than me RUUUNNN!" situation...

And at least I got away from the tower and 2 enemies without dying (Luck really but nobody said that...)

AvP was released today.  Me, jon, trouser, and hedgie had some fun with it.  if you want to do some MP in that game, let me know here that you bought it and are up for a game.

Re: the private game channels.  At this point, only hedgie, jon, paint, kalel, and trouser have access.  That's not to say we wont' join the public channels as well... I'm just on Dg a little less now as some new games are released... its a busy couple months.  AvP -which is actually fun in MP (to my surprize) came out, bf2bc2 is out early march, and supcom 2 is due out in march... let's not even mention starcraft or elemental.  Lots of good games are coming out soon.

Edit - oh, if you have sins and want to play, please pm me in vent or respond here.  I really enjoy that game and my core group of buds don't play it at all.  Love to get some games in with you.

I enjoy playing whatever game is available. If you want to play all random why not? but if you want to go competitive look no further because I can get real serious real fast.
