Personally, I would want it, and it would be a great addition in terms of the content.

Space building, level of details to the various weapon systems, design realism, ability to turn every system into a separate mini-game, superweapons/propaganda, popular support... awesome game
It is infantile. Here I have summarised what you wanted to say in three words.
this is simply not true https://steamdb.info/app/204880/graphs/ The peak for SOSE: Rebellion was nearly 100k players on steam alone. Do not forget all the legacy players who used to buy it on discs and their launchers. For the record, the peak for Stellaris was about 60k.
I already started wondering where are all the white knights. Being able to start seeing that something is really off with all bits and pieces so far is like two add two now. Of course, we do not know what we will get in the end, but at the moment, there are more red flags than there should be.

Let's put things into perspective: Homeworld - Realism 10/10, Stellaris - realism 7-8/10, Star Control Origins - realism 3/10, Warhammer40K - realism 2/10. Do you see where this is heading to?
The reason people think that the units look "cartoony" is because current images suggest models lacking realism in terms of proportions, material look. And people want realism
I think "Non Refundable" early access tells even more. It killed the hype for me
Let's wait for the gameplay footage. Let's hope it did not lose scale or complexity for the sake of attracting the Fortnite audience
Agree. The overall look is very cartoonish. Remember Star Control Origins? Looks like a dumb down for general audience
Here is a comparison of regional SOSE2 prices on Epic Store https://imgur.com/a/jjhwnNQ
Will it be the standard 1 year grace period?
