Ok - nevermind - previous poster is right. I just reached a high intel level with the Thalans, checked their hoemworld, and yes, the hyperion matrix was there. They must have had their first turn before me, and rush bought it so that when I began, I couldn't even see the option. That kinda sucks. But at least it's not a _bug_.
No I think there might be a problem here - I just started a Thalan tech tree custom race and wasn't able to build the Hyperion Matrix in my home world. I took the Hyperion matrix as a given tech. I wasn't able to build it in the first turn, and hence I can't see how it would have been built anywhere else earlier. Mind you, the Thalans are on the map, which may be part of the bug(?). Ok - I faced a similar problem. Fairly early in the tech tree, the Yor found a Precursor ranger. Same situation - 150hp, and >100 in each attack category. Totally unstoppable. Yea - in TA it seems that AI surrenders are a bit chaotic. I witnessed the Iconians with 5 planets surrender to the Yor with 2. That didn't make a lot of sense to me. So I loaded the autosave. This time the Iconians surrendered to the Korx, who I don't even think they were at war with. Doesn't make a lot of sense... Mind you, in the end I'm going to kill them all anyway:)
I got hit by the JK in my last Gigantic game - about 3/4 of the way through the game. It was a period of peace, where I was cranking technology and planning to drop the hammer on the few remaining civs. I had about 1/3 of the galaxy (15 planets) and the Krynn had 15.
