Most of the stuff is on Steam. But I think a lot of the stuff is also on the various game mod sites.
Frogboy
I really need to update this. :)
Then there is the fact that the game changed substantially many times, rendering a lot of what I learned obsolete. Its like a different game that I can't play anymore. Got removed because of a patch. For instance, I can't load up a previous edition where experimental weapons were available early on (very powerful) but required resources. Back then, anyone who wanted to survive as an independent empire needed resources.
<
I can tell you right now there won't be a "Campaign" for GalCiv IV. Instead, that story content will be integrated into the sandbox game so that each game can, in effect, be a campaign.
Thanks. Yea, I've sunk my share of hours into StarCraft 2 right up until this year when they buffed the Tempest's building killing ability. ;)
I'll be honest with you. I spend a lot of time on Reddit. One can see a direct correlation between the rice of Reddit (and to a lesser extent Twitter and Facebook) and the fall of blogs and forums. And I think that's a shame because the nice thing about forums is that you get to know the regulars and there are many nice features on forums that Reddit doesn't have. Still, the UI on many forums, including ours, is not as good as I'd like to see.
How old is that MacBook? My main Windows box is a 64-core AMD monster with 128GB of memory. It's very fast. But Windows is remarkably unresponsive compared to this little MacBook Air M1.
Merry Christmas everyone! So 2020 has come and gone. We hope to have some exciting news for you this next year in the world of Sins. In the meantime, we will be continuing to do events and hopefully have some new updates to the game in the coming months.
It's hard to believe that GalCiv III was released over 5 years ago. Since then, we've had a few major expansions and a lot of DLC. As we enter 2021, we have finally reached the stage where GalCiv III won't be seeing any new DLC but will continue to get updates in the form of balance, fixes and performance improvements as we find them. Updates will be less frequent as QA time is particularly precious right now. We are very proud of how Galactic Civilizations III evo
With regards to memory fragmentation you would need to have the game handle is own memory management rather than using New/Delete or Malloc/free. The engine used for Elemental and Fallen Enchantress do a ton of New/Deletes which, over time, resulted in a ton of memory fragmentation. This was to get around the 32bit memory limit of the day. Since that time, we co-founded a company called Oxide which developed the Nitrous engine which we now use which handles all the
No ray tracing in Ashes. It's got its own PBR setup but ray tracing was well behind any hardware (And realistically beyond anything until you get to a Nvidia 3080 or AMD 6700).
BTW, we are hiring. And people can work from remote. Our biggest obstacle right now is just staffing. But VGM is definitely not dead. We learned a lot from the builds that have gone out.
Definitely not dead. But needing to be redesigned a bit. Covid has kind of wreaked havoc on getting any projects moving effectively. :(
It would probably not make sense to port the Iron 1 engine to Mac. However, a future sequel (Iron 2x) is something we would probably look seriously at but even then, it might be Mac M optimized by that point.
That is odd. You have good specs. I have...a theory. I think your laptop might be throttling (from heat). Do you have any means to check your temps?
Actually I think we do have AAR section somewhere as I used to quite regularly write them. Looks like it was just for GalCiv II. When time comes for GalCiv IV I'll definitely make sure we start with those as there will be a lot more CK/Stellaris style events in there to spice things up.
This is indeed an issue I've struggled to teach them NOT to use those ships that way. It's on my list still.
I can honestly say I think about Elemental every day. :) Richard Garriott, of Ultima fame, wants to know when we're doing more too. We have plans and one of those plans is to actually try to release Elemental: War of Magic onto Steam and help update the branding on the other titles (Elemental: Fallen Enchantress and Elemental: Sorcerer King). But then Covid hit which threw a big wrench in our hiring process so I've been having to steal people from other projects
Ah, good to know.
i'm still curious what tuning people have done to get benchmark on crazy 8000pts +. I have managed 7700 only. The "big cleanup" is the plan for v4.0 of GalCiv III. It's in progress but it's slow going because of developer availability (btw, we are hiring new C++ devs here..). So as I've discussed in the past, I'd really like to find a way to make modding more robust though that's easier said than done because of the dumb way we did our data structuring early on. Basically you have lots of directories that the game pulls from which all depends on which expansions you
Yea, starbases are your best route to extend your range. You can also research life support techs to improve it as well.
I am shocked to hear myself say this but I have switched from Chrome to Edge.
I have to say, Windows 10 is just so much better in so many ways than Windows 7 at this point.
This is my work station area at Stardock when I'm working in the Object Desktop area of the company which is located on the third floor of the building. As you can see, I have 3 monitors connected to a Surface Pro. The reason I'm up here is so that I can collaborate in person with the rest of my team. And the reason for the Surface Pro is that I frequently use it as a tablet for sket
