Beta 4 schedule

Beta 4 schedule

News and notes..

Thursday October 27th is when we plan to release Beta 4.

It will be available to all users who pre-ordered the game.  Beta 4 will be the official start of the main beta stage of the game.  That is, when the game is starting to come together.  Major new features can't be added at that stage but tons of playability features can still be added. And often, what makes a good game great are little touches.

Beta 4 is going to have the diplomacy in it. It will also have the fleets and fleet battles and hopefully the full starbase implementations in them.  There will hopefully be a few custom maps in it as well as a couple of custom scenarios.

There will be regular updates to Beta 4 going into Christmas.  Users who are particularly helpful will be given access to private beta and content that we especially need constructive feedback on.

The campaign, "Dread Lords", won't be in the public beta since the surprise ending is a major issue we don't want to spoil.

Just remember its a beta and not a finished game if you're looking for something to just play.

I want the map editor to create a big map of the Milky Way, as a change from random clumps of stars.

You won't be able to make maps but there will be custom maps included with more released after the game is released.

Please make sure the "turn" bug button is FIXED... ....sorry, I couldn't resist! Anyway, you guys are making great progress, and GalCiv II has a clear lead on Space Empires (The real competitor, not that MOO garbage!) I've been having a blast with the beta, and I'm really looking forward to the next beta!

Yes, turn bug. Must go bye bye.

I like the turn bug. I think it definitely needs to be in the final version of the game.

(Just kidding; I haven't even played the beta yet.)

Oh wow, you're right! I honestly couldn't understand that. What language was he speaking anyway?

I have a talent for understanding people when they aren't making any sense. It sometimes comes in handy for playing Catch Phrase. But don't think I'm going to become Lowa11's official interpreter. I find his posts just as painful to read as anyone else does.

Will I be able to use Beta 4 on a computer not connected to the internet?

Currently my main machine is not connected (Ludite I know) and would like to try this on more than just my laptop machine?

Use the archive feature in Stardock Central, copy the archived files to CD, move to other machine.

TA-DA!

a measely 5 days...

as an addendum for game editors and mods,
you may not be able to make custom maps, but you can change a number of general aspects of the game via the /data folder.... and you don't even need to know xml! It's mostly ascii text (numbers), so you can open it with just about any text editor. I recommend galcivwriter; you can get from apolyton.net (i think). Just be sure to back up any files you edit, so that you don't have to reinstall GCII everytime you make your game unplayable because of data modifications.
