Beta 4 schedule

News and notes..

Thursday October 27th is when we plan to release Beta 4.

It will be available to all users who pre-ordered the game.  Beta 4 will be the official start of the main beta stage of the game.  That is, when the game is starting to come together.  Major new features can't be added at that stage but tons of playability features can still be added. And often, what makes a good game great are little touches.

Beta 4 is going to have the diplomacy in it. It will also have the fleets and fleet battles and hopefully the full starbase implementations in them.  There will hopefully be a few custom maps in it as well as a couple of custom scenarios.

There will be regular updates to Beta 4 going into Christmas.  Users who are particularly helpful will be given access to private beta and content that we especially need constructive feedback on.

The campaign, "Dread Lords", won't be in the public beta since the surprise ending is a major issue we don't want to spoil.

Think you missed this line:

The campaign, "Dread Lords", won't be in the public beta since the surprise ending is a major issue we don't want to spoil.

No im not... on drugs. a map editor prob won't be in the first realse of beta 4 maybe like beta 4D? hes talki ng about a map editor mainly like we can guess the right ending...

An editor is different from the campaign itself. The editor is the tool to build the campaign. They could release the tool without the content they created with it easily.

Editor could just be a map editor. More than likely for modifying most things you will need to know XTML (Or whatever its called) putting it out of reach of average geek who is mentally drained at his work and just doesnt want to bother and have fun with a PC game. However there are some Ubergeeks that will make some MODs.

Astax you always have this "ubergeeks" best to let them do their work and satify the morans customers.. (no offense if anyone here applies to this... ) anyways Map editors make the game more customizable and more Open-ended so many companies want to swtich to this but some are competly stupid. Now HL2 is really customizable HL2's engine is good but the storyboard Graphs were not as good as HL1 Valve wanted to make it customizable albet and thats just what everyone is trying to do... there is this Site called Empires or somting that trys to make a mod for First-person shooters and convert them into Stragetic games where there are 2 forces it becomes like a Real RTS of sorts... they tried it with the BFs but BF1942 and BF2 would become unstable when "converted" so the project was shifted to HL2 and would seem better...

Editors won't be comign with GalCiv II.  We have some editors but they're no where near any condition you could give to end users.  We'll look at creating consumer based editors for the expansion pack.

No he's not. He just doesn't want anyone to understand him.

This makes Zoomba a sad panda

All of the editors, particularly the map editor, would require significant dev time to make them available. We'll fold that into the expansion.

I am waiting with baited breath. Been waiting a loong time for a worthy sucessor to MOO2 (and MOO3 wasn't it).

Dammit!

Will there atleast be a support for custom map files, where you can start a game using a predefined map? So that some geekier fans can put forth their own map editors? And if so please make the map files something rudementry like a txt file and not a big complex file that requires friggin hex editor to decipher
