Where to purchase from?

Where to purchase from?

I have decided to buy this game  :) .

In the UK at least it has just become available retail, Amazon would suit me fine (I presume I get a nice DVD).  It is already on Steam, but I have always managed to keep clear of Steam, I don't want any install manager etc.  I'm much happier doing my own installing, downloading and applying patches myself, and so on.

  • If I buy from Amazon instead of Steam, will I get just the same game?  Will I be able to get patches in future?  (Or even, will it just make me go install via the Steam or Stardock client?)
  • I have seen there is extra content like Maps DLC, which (I presume) won't come with the retail.  If I wanted to buy that, would I be able to do it/how?

Thanks.

Indeed, all running and 1.3.

Now, that's upstairs on the desktop, you've said it's OK to install Steam and access the game from my laptop downstairs too.  Given how long it takes to download LH again, can I somehow copy what I've already got installed from upstairs, then perhaps install Steam client properly on top, and it would accept that it doesn't need to re-download the whole game?  That would save a lot of time...  Thanks.

just make sure that ONLY one computer is logged into steam at a time as steam throws a wobbly when it sees two computers logging in to the one account at a time (i suspect that the wobbly could include locking or killing the ENTIRE account)

Here is a faq that will answer quite a few of the question you may have lingering. If you log into steam and a second user logs into steam, it disconnects the first user and vice versa. They suspect they do not do what you suggest because of the large number of problems that arise with general internet connections throughout. The faq directly addresses what you say harpo99999.

Personally, the thing just pops up and says the account is already in use or some such and prevents log-in. I haven't been locked out of steam for it though.

edit: I haven't tried copying the file data stuff over from one computer to another, but I suspect there is other files not in the game directory that steam checks for and so you might have to re-download the entire game, unless you find an acceptable way around it in the steam forums.

I copied Steam and the games on it from an external drive to my main drive without having to redownload the game or Steam.  I'm not sure if there are some other things I did to make it work though.
