https://www.sinsofasolarempire.com/lore The loyalist members of the Trader Emergency Coalition adopt a policy of isolation, focusing on enhanced defenses to ride out the rest of the war. Those who rebel against the coalition take on a purely militant view, coming to the opinion that the only way to bring peace is by ultimately crushing all who oppose them - especially xenos

Who are the xenos? Royalist tec?

https://www.sinsofasolarempire.com/featuresUpdated graphics bring Sins of a Solar Empire to life as never before, with new particle effects, enhanced textures, and improved shading.

It didn't say shading last time i read it. This is awesome and the background on the website says everything. Wow

...new race colors, post processing effects?

Put the dates back on news posts. I don't want to click them just to find out they're three months old.

Since the min requirement don't ask 64 bit, i don't think that the executable will be 64 bits... by the way, it is crazy to use win7 x64 with only 4gb ram... minimum requirement for win7 x64 is 2gb in place of 1gb for win7 32 bit... mean that it remain only 2 gb for ALL your application... best to recommend win7 x64 only if you have more that 4gb ram !!! Else, welcome the mini-dump long before the game reach it's 2gb limit...

Well, i have enough ram ( 16ggb ), enough graphic power ( nv 8800 ultra 768mb ), enough processor power ( 2 quad core Xeon ) but i have not the right OS ( win xp pro x64 )... why in hell is xp not anymore listed in the OS list !!!

fileosoft, it is my guess that the vshita /win7  only is due to m$$$ wanting to kill all xp systems as it is a nine year old os and m$$$ wants to stop supporting it asap, but it should have killed vshita.

Uhm, no. Unless you keep loads of RAM intensive stuff open all the time, 4Gb will be just fine.

I do not want to crop and resize (losing resolution) as the middle is empty for the forums ... I would rather have 'official' wallpapers of the background mural that are source quality (not .jpg all resized and distorted).

I wish the game studios would give the big middle finger to Microsoft and their silly "Games for Windows" designation and Application Data folder.  Does being designated "Games for Windows" really sell more copies of the game?

Sorry for this slight derail, but it's bothering me...

Has anyone noticed that the background is flipped sideways?

The Kols have their metal plating on the right side in the background picture, which is actually on the left in-game...

The right side has the hangars and the laser cannons, so I'm guessing that this picture was actually intended to be flipped around.

Again, sorry, it just bothered me...

Yarlen has said that 64-bit is NOT happening. Just because the game is recommended for 64-bit machines doesn't meant that it is actually 64-bit...

I think that they are just stating the most common recent software requirements, not the actual requirements. I'm pretty sure that Rebellion will still run on old Windows XP 32-bit. Unless it is made not to.

HUGE! :O

Yeah, there won't be a 64-bit or multicore version of Rebellion.  It's simply that 64-bit OS's rock and if you have Windows 7, you should be rocking with the 64-bit version. :P

Has the engine been further optimized for Rebellion to reduce resource usage at all? I'm curious if everything has been converted over to .dds textures, if said textures have been shrunk where applicable (as some are just HUGE in size) and the same story for some of the very high poly models, envoys and mines for example.

Since I'm going to be upgrading my computer in just under a year I'm trying to gauge just how much core speed I need to get out of my multi-core processor as it will only be utilizing one core? (I'm assuming a 3ghz core speed will be required?)

So basically 32-bit XP will run Rebellion fine but you decided to make Windows 7 64-bit Recommended just because?  Way to mislead.

Basically, it'll probably run. But they aren't going to rework the engine if it doesn't.

We're optimizing the engine further as we're able. Turning things into .dds files won't help anything since once the textures go into memory, they're all the same size after conversion.  We're not reworking any of the existing models except to potentially look better.

Any multi-core processor will be fine.  It's more that they allow Sins to run on one core while the OS has the others to play with. ;)

No, it's the recommended spec.  If you ask us what OS we "recommend" you play the game on, we're telling you Windows 7 64-bit. :P

Neato. Now how about early and immediate private alpha / beta access...
