AI a bit cocky?

Maybe it's just me but when playing solo vs an AI opponent, the AI likes to tease me by launching an attack on one of my worlds and sending a snarky message like "I hope you like the smell of rockets in the morning".

However, I noticed that it would send one Disciple-class ship to my most fortified chokepoint and say something like "Say goodbye to Maichan" or whatever. Usually, the ship would be space dust before I finished reading the message.

But when a fleet with 3 motherships and a ton of other cap ships lands on one of my production centers... nothing.

Anyone else see odd behavior like that? Aside from stuff like that, which is essentially flavoring, the AI is brutal and seems to play fairly intelligently.

The AI seems to be quite good. It does not suicide fleets unless it has to, it is a bit on the cautious side though.

The taunts are sorta funny, I think they trigger whenever a ship enters one of your systems which can lead to odd situations when a scout ship announces that it will destroy you, then is promptly destroyed.

Indeed, I noticed this as well. Can't blame it for retreating sometimes, but there were a few situations where I figured "OK, I'm gonna sit here and chew on them for a while and then get out" and watched the entire enemy fleet phase jump out, leaving a juicy planet to take. Strategically, it should have tried to defend or at least reduced my numbers some before abandoning the planet to my not so tender mercies.

Yup. "Let's get it on" is my favorite so far. "Ummm... OK. *pew pew* *pop* Was it good for you too?"
