Upgrading ships / 1.0 vs. 1.0X

Is there a way to upgrade ships like in 1.0 when using 1.0X?
It kinda annoys me that I have to add all pieces AGAIN whenever I decide to upgrade an existing ship design.
In 1.0, the game would just use the complete design, but in 1.0X, it removes all components except hull and jewelry.
So, is there something obvious I'm missing which would enable me to upgrade ships "the old way"?
Which way do you prefer, anyway?

There's another topic on this somewhere recently....... but to restate my point of view on it.

Personally, I hated the old way! It was a real chore to find the components to delete on the original version if you built anything bigger and more complex - not to mention if you had stupidly put something in the interior of your ship!. Clicking on the things in the bar to delete them was unpredictable at best and would often replace it as soon as you clicked on the next one.

Now it scraps all your non jewellery based things and let's you put on all your current techs. Sometimes it takes a couple of seconds longer to do but often it takes several minutes less. I vastly prefer the newer way.

Other than patching down.... no, can't say that there is a way. Wait and see what happens in the next patch - the ship builder is getting a major overhaul, so who can tell what will be true for that!

There should be a window that pops up and asks you if you want to have only jewellery or everything. Because sometimes I too miss this feature.

Or maybe just keep the old design and add a button to remove all components except for the jewelry.

Yes spear but the fastest way to upgrade enmasse your ships was to open your previous design throw a light or something on it save it and then it would ask you what you wanted to upgrade your design to. At which point you could select a new design. Now i have to remember exactly what i had on the old design so that i dont. mess it up for later games. Very painful until they allow us to upgrade ships en masse

I like the idea of options as a lot of times I will only want to upgrade one portion of a design with a new weapon but keep everything else. Having to replace all the gear takes up time and often results in me writing down the old design so I can reference it on paper.

I can see where a complete overhaul would be nice but I would like the option of what gets deleted.

Exactly.
I guess preference for either 1.0 or 1.02x depends on you playstyle.
Most of the time, I'll stick with one basic design for quite a long time, but upon researching Singularity Drivers III and/or some new Miniaturization tech, I will upgrade all weaponry and/or fill available space with new components, if possible.
Doing this in the 1.02x approach is a real pain, IMO.

That's was one of my suggestions in this thread.

Yes, there is a way, even if it's a bit complex one.
Select a peace of jewelry in the bar and click on the "remove" button. After it, without doing anything else, click on the hull in the bar. Doing so, you'll get the ship with all its components, included the piece of jewelry that you have previously removed, and all the weapons/defences/engines/etc. Now you can add what you wish, and/or remove something. Note that if you only want to remove more than a single thing, you can't. To do it, you have to remove a thing, save, and then repeat the operation.
