Hopefully things will go smoothly for you to get the game.  But if not, here's a guide to help you..

First Steps..
When you purchase the game you will receive a link to Stardock Central. Download that.

Make sure you are running 2.29 or later (if you've been running Stardock Central for awhile, double check in the about box that you're not using an old version like 2.24).

Downloading
If you're downloading the game and it's slow, you can try a different server.  From Stardock Central go to tools->Settings and the server is in the "Internet" area.  We have several different servers.

Account Problems
If you used a different email address to purchase the game direct than what you used to create an account here, Stardock Central may get confused. If that happens, email support@stardock.com with the subject "GalCiv Account Issue" and they'll take care of you.  If you receive no response within 1 hour, post here and someone from Stardock will likely see it and take care of you here.

Download Speeds
The core game download speed will be slower than the multimedia/movies/tutorials because those are mirrored.  The core game is regularly updated so we aren't able to mirror it as much.  You should still get pretty decent speeds (and a reminder: try a different server if you find downloading too slow or if you get a time out -- bear in mind, there's a LOT of people downloading the game).

If you have problems related to actually obtaining/installing the game, post them HERE in this thread.

NOTE: Some anti-virus software will cause the installer not to work (i.e. it'll block Stardock Central from extracting/installing the game). If you run into an installation problem, try disabling some of your anti-virus setup temporarily to see if that resolves it.

no i don't get an error everything goes perfectly it just doesn't download it doesn't even appear on stardock central. all that is on the games section is thoses demos

I just purchased the game through the online store, but now I'm just getting an error when trying to download http://sdc.stardock.com/sdcentral_setup.exe :

Unable to connect

Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at sdc.stardock.com.

Is the sdc server not up? I tried ping to sdc.stardock.com and it seems to be working, just the web server isn't up and not letting me download.

I seem to have joined the ranks of the many here who have had problems registering the game to begin with. I have just paid for the online downloadable version of GalCiv II : dark Avatar expansion pack. And recieved the serial code within an email.

Using the tools register product option. Product :Games, then drag down bar to GalCiv II : dark avatar expansion pack; My email addresse correctly typed and then serial code directly cut and pasted from the email recieved. Clicking register button It says product succesfully registered. However clicking OK underneath installation pathway I get a "Failed to validate your galciv II registration information. Please verify that you have entered your serial number and email addresse correctly" Well I think I have and yet I get this error message each time.

Hello

I bought GalCiv2: Dark Avatar via credit card by digital download. I got email with confirmation, serial number etc. I downloaded and installed that stardock central but I can not download the game. I go: games - Dark Avatar (expansion pack) i press "register" and then "ok" blabla but there is no option how to obtain the game. the game is already paid. any help? thanx

Do you also have the original GC2 Dread Lords registered to the same account? That is a requirement in order to be able to download Dark Avatar.

Help-can't download
Hi, I am new to Stardock. I just purchased GalCiv2 Exp. Pk, and it will not download the multimedia files or the Dark Avatar Exp.
It looks like Gal Civ2 downloaded just fine.
I have tried disabling my antivirus software completely,but that doesn't help.
Also, tried:
New version of Stardock
Mirror site
Cycled power, changed IE settings

I am also having some problems downloading the game. The core files downloaded and installed but there are issues with the other folders.

Groovejuice, try switching servers in SDC's settings->internet settings (you can choose US-1 or US-2). If you get the same result after trying the other server, please contact support@stardock.com.

Gosh, how I wish I hadn't bothered purchasing GC2 - Dark Avatar.

I am having a problem downloading DA. I purchased the game, got the e-mail, installed the SDC setup software (sdc v2.44) and registered GC2 - DA.

I cannot see anywhere to download the game, and I have been trying for hours.

Someone earlier in this thread mentioned that you have to register GC2 before you can download the add-on, so I tried that, however when I enter my serial number off the CD (shop bought, brand new & sealed), it tells me that "the e-mail address does not match our records". It is the only e-mail address I have, and it is the one I registered GC2 with and the one I used to purchase Dark Avatar with !

All I want to do is download and play Dark Avatar, I really cannot believe that they have made it this difficult to purchase it.

I have e-mailed Stardock tech support, but have had no reply from them as yet.

Can anyone here help ? Please ??

They should be able to help you, then. Make sure you've received the autoreply when you sent your mail. Also, please do not send additional mails as that can delay support personnel from getting to your ticket.

Check any spam filters or bulk inboxes you have to make sure it wasn't blocked. If there's nothing in there, then you can also submit a ticket directly here (you may need to check back there regularly for a response though, if the emails can't get through).

Hi there, i'm new to GC/just bought it

How can i get GC2 to install in a folder of my - the customer, mind you - choice?

I put the stardock central on C:, where all programs, tools and spywares go, and without further questioning it that tool of yours simply decided it might be nice to jam my system partition with some 500mb(still growing as the other parts are downloaded and installed) game.

I'm having a problem where stardock won't recognize my previously registered Galactic Civilizations II serial despite two of my accounts being merged earlier today. Since Stardock thinks my serial is invalid, I can't download Dark Avatar.

Here's something odd too. When I click "My Account"-->"Registrations" I see GalCiv I, and GalCiv II Dark Avatar. However, the serial number for DA keeps changing everytime I go there and look at it again. The serial number for GalCiv I always stays the same. Earlier today I only saw GalCiv I until the fellow at tech support merged two of my accounts. That's when I started seeing the expansion in the list...but GalCiv II is still not there. I definitely have a legal, store-bought copy...I even have all the updates from previous downloading (from a year ago). Any ideas?
