Hopefully things will go smoothly for you to get the game.  But if not, here's a guide to help you..

First Steps..
When you purchase the game you will receive a link to Stardock Central. Download that.

Make sure you are running 2.29 or later (if you've been running Stardock Central for awhile, double check in the about box that you're not using an old version like 2.24).

Downloading
If you're downloading the game and it's slow, you can try a different server.  From Stardock Central go to tools->Settings and the server is in the "Internet" area.  We have several different servers.

Account Problems
If you used a different email address to purchase the game direct than what you used to create an account here, Stardock Central may get confused. If that happens, email support@stardock.com with the subject "GalCiv Account Issue" and they'll take care of you.  If you receive no response within 1 hour, post here and someone from Stardock will likely see it and take care of you here.

Download Speeds
The core game download speed will be slower than the multimedia/movies/tutorials because those are mirrored.  The core game is regularly updated so we aren't able to mirror it as much.  You should still get pretty decent speeds (and a reminder: try a different server if you find downloading too slow or if you get a time out -- bear in mind, there's a LOT of people downloading the game).

If you have problems related to actually obtaining/installing the game, post them HERE in this thread.

NOTE: Some anti-virus software will cause the installer not to work (i.e. it'll block Stardock Central from extracting/installing the game). If you run into an installation problem, try disabling some of your anti-virus setup temporarily to see if that resolves it.

I got this reply when I sent the same issue in with stardock a couple days ago at work.
"Make sure you have the 'Show pre-release versions' box checked (lower left area of the screen)."
I followed what it said and problem solved and beta working, only thing now is my star dock doesn't want to seem to connect or show my games list and status just keeps saying verifying internet connection status..

DJ do you have anything that could be blocking SDC?

Also have you tired reinstalling SDC? Actually I would say to you and to Szaijan

Here is the easy way:


 -Run the file here: http://sd.stardock.com/mike/apps/remove_sdc.bat
 -Restart your computer
 -Reinstall SDC from here: http://sdc.stardock.com/sdcentral_setup.exe

Thanks Seabass. It turns out the option to "Show Pre-Release Versions" had become unchecked when I updated SDC. When that is unchecked, SDC shows a 0.86 version of the beta, which is no longer valid. OLnce I realized that and clicked the "Show Pre-Release Versions" checkbox, everything downloaded and installed smoothly in about 60 sec.

As a follow up to my previous posting... Using my laptop, I was able to fully download and install from scratch everything from Stardock Central to the latest TA Beta update without any issues. It appears that the problems are inherent to my desktop PC. Most likely, some registry leftovers that were corrected once I had re-installed using the cd media for DA as my desktop is able to update fine at this point.

I've found myself having the same problem as above: I can't get the beta downloaded. However, I do have the pre-release box checked, and its still showing the 0.86 version, which is apparently not valid anymore. Any thoughts?

Try Hitting the Refresh XML button in SDC's internet settings, and restarting SDC.

That didn't work. I actually tried that a little while ago, but tried it again, and it still didn't work. Any other suggestions?

Problem solved! I just downloaded and re-installed SD Central, and lo and behold, there's the correct version of the beta. Installing now. Why didn't I think of that earlier?

It always bugs support to suggest the uninstall/reinstall since it is so simple but it seems to work more than half the time. Cache is a deadly thing.

If anyone from Stardock reads this please send me a message.
I Purchased the game 3 hours ago using PayPal. But I did not receive any links so I could download the game. Neither did I get a link to install Stadock before the purchase. I was taken directly to Paypal payment interface then to checkout.
I have emailed customer support but have not received any reply.
I have also contacted PayPal.

NO, it does NOT work   

I did by GALCIV2 Gold Edition in the belief that I could download it and get it straight away.

I don't know what's making the download break randomly and nobody's around who can do anything about it, so I've tossed the first copy I found on my machine onto my personal site so you guys can get it now. It's not the latest version but it should autoupdate the first time you run it.

i am having trouble installing TA...i see it in the GAMES list, i entered in my registration number, i see the 'install' icon, i click on it, it starts the process, downloads file, extracts files, then starts the install, gets to about 47% then ends, and restarts, over and over again, doesnt seem to want to go past one file DX or something...thanks garyb

Make sure you have 'show prerelease versions' enabled at the bottom of SDC. You may also try switching servers in SDC's internet settings.
