Hopefully things will go smoothly for you to get the game.  But if not, here's a guide to help you..

First Steps..
When you purchase the game you will receive a link to Stardock Central. Download that.

Make sure you are running 2.29 or later (if you've been running Stardock Central for awhile, double check in the about box that you're not using an old version like 2.24).

Downloading
If you're downloading the game and it's slow, you can try a different server.  From Stardock Central go to tools->Settings and the server is in the "Internet" area.  We have several different servers.

Account Problems
If you used a different email address to purchase the game direct than what you used to create an account here, Stardock Central may get confused. If that happens, email support@stardock.com with the subject "GalCiv Account Issue" and they'll take care of you.  If you receive no response within 1 hour, post here and someone from Stardock will likely see it and take care of you here.

Download Speeds
The core game download speed will be slower than the multimedia/movies/tutorials because those are mirrored.  The core game is regularly updated so we aren't able to mirror it as much.  You should still get pretty decent speeds (and a reminder: try a different server if you find downloading too slow or if you get a time out -- bear in mind, there's a LOT of people downloading the game).

If you have problems related to actually obtaining/installing the game, post them HERE in this thread.

NOTE: Some anti-virus software will cause the installer not to work (i.e. it'll block Stardock Central from extracting/installing the game). If you run into an installation problem, try disabling some of your anti-virus setup temporarily to see if that resolves it.

I saw all this talk on the main page about redownloading later on, if you lose your disc, et cetera. Does anyone know where?


You download the game via Stardock Central (our download manager app), which is available on the downloads page of the site here. Once you've registered the game to your account (the same one you use for the forums here), you just need to log in on SDC with said account and the game will be available for download there.

While I was purchasing the Digital Download & CD package shipped version of Galactic Civilizations II Dark Avatar, I put in my shipping and credit card information, and pressed the "Confirm Order" button. After this, the website went immediately to the home page of the Stardock Store without any confirmation page or information about downloading the game. What should I do about this problem?

Contact sales@stardock.com to make sure that an order was not already placed before attempting again.

Did you at least get an autoresponse when you sent your mail providing you with a ticket number and access details? If you did not, check your spam filter settings for that any any other responses you may have received.

i cant seem to get the game to download off of stardock central (im using the new version). Either i get an error that says "account information invalid" or an error that says "-18 html code detected". How the heck do i get my games?

I have a problem. I bought GCII:Dread Lords Collector's Edition from Walmart. That IS my problem. I can not use mods so I need update. I download Stardock Central, get account, download version 1.4 update, enter serial number and password two million times and make sure I used upper case "I" instead of 1 and 0 (zero) instead of uppercase O. I got an error message that is not on any help site, wrote 4 emails and got 4 replies that help none. Can not return to Walmart due to "let the buyer beware" no return policy "for my convenience." The error says I have an invalid password and/or serial number - please refer to and fill out form, went to link provided, link says to check email, I checked email and email says Stardock has no record of serial number associated with any "online" purchase. I bought the game at Walmart. Could Stardock have made it any easier for me? Before I toss this and go back to playing Oblivion, I thought I would make a "last ditch" effort. I am obviously doing something wrong. Could someone spell out the easy to follow instructions for me to follow so I can end the month long nightmare?

I just bought Gal Civ 2 from the online site. Everything seemed to go fine, until I tried to download SD Central. I get an error saying unable to connect. What's the deal here? The part of the site that took my money was working just fine. I can't even cancel my order so that I can pick up the game at a store.

This is not exactly the impression a new player should get. Does anyone have any suggestions or useful information about this?

Did you try looking at the "Can't Activate or Register the game? See here first!" thread at the top of the forum? The most likely case is that your game came only with a Collector's Edition serial (which only unlocks some extra content) and not an actual game serial. The Collector's Edition serials all start with GC2-, while a game serial is 28 characters long with no dashes, and contains only 0-9 and A-F. If this is the case (you got only a CE serial), hop over to this page (ignore what it says about being for Europe only) and fill in your CE serial and the email address you used for your forum account. You should receive a usable game serial; if the form will not give you one, contact support@stardock.com.

If you do have a game serial in the format mentioned above, and when you try to register or activate it says something to the effect of "the email does not match the one in our records", contact support@stardock.com.

Do you get this error when trying to download the SDC installer, or when trying to use SDC after installing it? Since you already have a Stardock.net account (your forum account), you can try again to download SDC directly from here if you were unable to before. If you're receiving connection error messages when running SDC for the first time, you may need to check your firewall settings.

I bought the game last night from the store, got the Gold Edition with the expansion and registered it to the proper email address - However, when I setup the account with Stardock it doesn't list GC2 as one of my purchased games and attempting to enter the serial number provided says that's the wrong email address.

I went over my order email again and I used the right email address, a little confused as to what's up.

I have submitted a support ticket (FGU-630168) and would very much appreciate any help.

I was just hoping to maybe speed things along - Seems like an eternity since I ordered last night and submitted the ticket.

Also, when I login to the help desk I cannot see my ticket under the 'view tickets' list for some strange reason....Assuming it has to do with some strange permissions you guys have setup in Kayako.

Is there an option to purchase DA with tokens? I've been holding on to a few tokens to purchase DA but SD Central shows N/A in the token field and doesn't seem to have an option available.

Still waiting on a response from support

Even borrowed a friends CD copy and tried to update with my serial, won't work says I'm using a standalone key?

Anywho...if anyone could take a peek at my ticket and maybe nudge things along I'd greatly appreciate it. DMQ-548782

I am having huge amounts of difficultly downloading GC2, i did until recently have a copy on a cd but the serial code printed on the front of the disk was false, thanx stardock, so i bough a copy of GC2 and its DA the only problem is after using Stardock central to registor both. Yet they have not appeared as availble to download. Infact they are not there at all have i just wasted £35, CD copy, and the two download copies, for a game that i have no way to download.

Please help

Do you get an error when attempting to register? Please give specific details as to the trouble you're having so we can help you solve it.
