STICKY: Getting the game Downloaded!

STICKY: Getting the game Downloaded!

Need help? Here's the place

Hopefully things will go smoothly for you to get the game.  But if not, here's a guide to help you..

First Steps..
When you purchase the game you will receive a link to Stardock Central. Download that.

Make sure you are running 2.29 or later (if you've been running Stardock Central for awhile, double check in the about box that you're not using an old version like 2.24).

Downloading
If you're downloading the game and it's slow, you can try a different server.  From Stardock Central go to tools->Settings and the server is in the "Internet" area.  We have several different servers.

Account Problems
If you used a different email address to purchase the game direct than what you used to create an account here, Stardock Central may get confused. If that happens, email support@stardock.com with the subject "GalCiv Account Issue" and they'll take care of you.  If you receive no response within 1 hour, post here and someone from Stardock will likely see it and take care of you here.

Download Speeds
The core game download speed will be slower than the multimedia/movies/tutorials because those are mirrored.  The core game is regularly updated so we aren't able to mirror it as much.  You should still get pretty decent speeds (and a reminder: try a different server if you find downloading too slow or if you get a time out -- bear in mind, there's a LOT of people downloading the game).

If you have problems related to actually obtaining/installing the game, post them HERE in this thread.

NOTE: Some anti-virus software will cause the installer not to work (i.e. it'll block Stardock Central from extracting/installing the game). If you run into an installation problem, try disabling some of your anti-virus setup temporarily to see if that resolves it.

My download spead is 20 - 40 kB/s. My cable could deliver much more

Is this the normal current speed? I tried US-Chicago, US-California and US-4. I didn't make any difference

I switched off off antivirus software.

A test download from other servers showed that my connection is o.k.

Is there anything I can do beside having patience (and this would need a lot of patience ...).

Thanks in advance

I bought the limited edition(european) and can't install the game. When I insert the disk in my dvd drive I get an error message(roughly translated):

"The object schedule.exe, which this shortcut is referring to, has been replaced or is missing. The shortcut does not work properly anymore.

Do you want to remove the shortcut? Yes/No"

I've pressed No everytime and the autorun image opens. Pressing Install causes the application to freeze(pressing readme and the weblinks works fine). Same thing happens when I access disk 1 and run Setup. Any ideas?

I ahve tried all the thing suggested here and the game is still not downloading any faster than 1 Kb per second.

I have tried all the alternate servers and have the latest version of StarDock as well as a health Internet connect.

Firewall had beed switched off but provides no benifit.

It there anywhere else to download the client.?

Hello,

I purchased the game, and received an order ID, but I never got any mail past that point containing a serial number or download location. I registered with galciv2.com and downloaded Stardock Central, but it isn't able to find a serial number either.

This is a little disturbing. I sent mail to sales@stardock.com but I am not expecting to hear back from them til monday. Anyone out there that has run into thi sproblem, or has any advice?

Thanks

I had the same happen to me, don't know when we'll find anything out.

Hey, My problem is that it seems to be continuously downl;oading the same file (the core game file) in a loop. It gets half way through extracting, then it starts all over again... any ideas?

I ordered Galciv2, but I do not have a Windows machine hooked to the internet. I do have a Linux machine that I use for internet access, and can manually transfer information between the machines (by way of DVDR).

Is there some way of downloading the game and playing it on my Windows machine, or do I just need to wait until the physical CD-ROM disks arrive?

I'm having the same problem that Datafox is having, the install gets through the download, extracts the installation files and then dies at 100% extracting Big_Button_Away.png. The destination files are never created, nor are the directories they should go into. Even creating the folder in advance doesn't help.

I just bought 10 TotalGaming tokens for the purpose of getting GalCiv II, but after downloading SDC (2.30.381 -- I hope it's the newest version, since I just downloaded it), GalCiv II doesn't show up at all on the list of games for me to buy it.

I opened a ticket (HGZ-482174) five days ago and, despite the claim that it may take up to two business days to hear anything, it's been three and still nothing. Here's the crux of the problem:

I am using Stardock Central version 2.30.381 build 120. I am able to download the file "gc2.sdc" fine but when the game tries to install, I get the following error:

-- [Installation] ---------------------------------------------------
Download: C:\Program Files\Stardock\SDCentral\data\public\gc2\production\gc2.xml 1
Load: C:\Program Files\Stardock\SDCentral\data\public\gc2\production\gc2.xml 1
Download: C:\Program Files\Stardock\SDCentral\temp\gc2.sdc 1
Extract C:\Program Files\Stardock\SDCentral\temp\gc2.sdc 0 | Attempt: 1 | Extraction error 1
Download: C:\Program Files\Stardock\SDCentral\temp\gc2.sdc 1
Extract C:\Program Files\Stardock\SDCentral\temp\gc2.sdc 0 | Attempt: 2 | Extraction error 1
Download: C:\Program Files\Stardock\SDCentral\temp\gc2.sdc 1
Extract C:\Program Files\Stardock\SDCentral\temp\gc2.sdc 0 | Attempt: 3 | Extraction error 1
Result: Installation failed (33)

I attached the full error logs for each server in the ticket, here's what I've done to try to fix this:

1) Switched servers. I've tried Calif, Chicago & 4
2) Deleted the gc2.sdc file before trying again
3) Deleted the entire temp directory before trying again.
4) Rebooted and tried 1-3.

Even though I have corrected my 'account information' so that the email address matches the one on my order, the Stardock application will not download the game files. This is a known issue and I have submitted a ticket, but no response (yes, yes, yes, 'two business days'. which could be Monday, I guess.).

So I am in a situation where the game that is so proudly non-copy-protected is unavailable to me after I've paid for it. I'm not finding an appropriate smiley for this...

Ah well. Long as it gets fixed....

Is this still not resolved?

It looks like the download is working fine but the extraction from the temp to the install directory is failing.

Did you check in SDS to make sure the directories you have given are valid?

Otherwise try from scratch and remove SDC and reinstall (make sure the directories are all removed aswell)

I'm getting really worried too. I purchased the game and I'm having problems with Stardock Central realising that. I got the confirmation and serial key after I did my order, however when I try to register the game in Stardock Central so I can download it it keeps giving me errors.

"The email address you entered does not match our records."

However it is the same email I used for buying the game AND setting up my Stardock account. Spelt correctly both times.

What is even more worrying is that when I request that all the game serials I am registered for be sent to me in an email it says that I am not registered for any.

So I've brought the game, had it confirmed, been given a serial key, and after that my account dropped off the face of the planet. Help?!?!

I purchased GC2 last night as a download only. However, when I completed the trasnsaction, I was redirected to a product search page instead of a confirmation page. I checked my bank account, and it appears that the money was indeed taken out, however I have not recieved any email with the download link or serial #. The email I used to purchase was stevenshoemaker@adelphia.net. Please help!

Damn...

Frogboy, you guys really should enable attachments for these forums. Then people can add those error strings (or whatever related data they have) and post them as such instead of inline text and graphics.

Well, if it's any reassurance to anyone, I was getting the 'mismatched email' error, and it is corrected now, though I recieved no notification email, and the ticket still shows 'open'.

Game installed and plays, so maybe...check the SDC periodically?

Nope, not resolved. I've un/reinstalled StarDock and even added the directory it wants to install to manually, still having problems.

Even more than the problems though, worse has been the total lack of response from the company to the open ticket. The game may be getting good reviews for gameplay but I'm having serious doubts about their customer service.

It would save a lot of support hassle if people created their Startdock account at the time they purchased the game. Creating your SD account as a second step is very confusing. It works, but no other online systems work that way - for a new user there is a moment of panic when they wonder where their Stardock user details are.

I am very upset with this company right now.  After reading through all of these posts, it seems I am not the only one with problems.  I purchased a digital download copy solely for the ability to download it right away.  I could have just went to the store, purchased it cheaper, and came back installed and had it working by now.

I purchased Galactic Civ II over an hour ago and have not received my serial number. My visa card was charged though! So, what type of service am I getting here? I thought STEAM was bad, but holy cow, this is much worse after reading all the responses here.  I am at the point where I want my money back.

Thanks,

Gabriel Grinstead

Well, I finally received my serial number after 6 - 7 hours.  Beware to anyone who purchases thinking that they will be playing the same day as it is very unlikely.

The game looks fun, but as a customer I'd suggest they make this process a little more seemless or they will be faced with more people frustrated like me. Not good for business, any business.

Off to play the game, well, after it downloads that is.

Thanks,

Not sure if its been mentioned, but I bought the game from a store and tried in install it on my laptop. It gets to the auto run, but won't run. Just makes a weird sound with the CD in the drive, which makes me think it is a hardware problem. Anyway, I was wondering if I could download a copy through Stardock with my CD key? Any help would be appreciated it or it will be a long week stuck here at college
