Hail, Diplomats. Just shaking off the last binge and thought I'd stop in to say hello to the ancient, decrepit (but virile I'm sure) vets that actually remember me. And to those who've arrived since I fell into a tequila coma in the Special Forces Tavern back in the GC1 days, well met. It's good to see a few of the old banners still flying.

Hey, fellas. Just dropping in to say "Avast" to the new crowd of scurvy dogs. I think Kit stopped by the Special Forces Tavern about a year ago, and we had a couple drinks...I just woke up. I think he's still unconscious on the bathroom floor - but I'm not going to try to peel him off it. Who's going to post the first recipe for fried Torian? I'm hungry.
Hello, guys. Just dropping in to say hi to the old-timers - good to see a few familiar faces around. Also wanted to see what the GC2 fuss was about. I'm planning on picking it up in the next week or so - I THINK I'm still current on the Drengin subscription. See you around the galaxy, and may the Force be with y'all.
Chris, About the only fix that can come from outside Stardock on an issue like this is to double-check the serial number (ones or "I"s? zeroes or "O"s?) and verify that you're using the same email address that you used to register the game. If that fails to solve it, you should send an email to support@stardock.com. Stardock is generally well above average among gaming companies at responding to tech support emails. As this is a public forum, we as users can't do anything if the problem
Sorry for the triple posting.
Hey, at least it bumped the thread. :) Apologize if I missed your point the first time around on the alternate Metaverse, Peace Phoenix. (So much for diplomacy.) I do think they're good suggestions - anything to make the player more visible on the Metaverse is a good thing. Solitair, I do like the idea of having different "sorting" options as you're describing. Perhaps the top of the main Metaverse page could have a few "Top 5" lists
Well, I thought this would garner at least one "maybe" vote. Let's see where this thread goes over the next few days as others check in. Peace Phoenix, I like your concept, but I'm against the "alternate Metaverse" idea. Too many websites to keep up with as it is. We obviously have the current system in place for GalCiv1; I would not be averse to seeing some of the changes you suggested for the "official" GalCiv2 metaverse. Solitair, I think the real issue that you're driving a
Us older gamers do have a use sometimes: it is to tell the youngin's what they missed back when. Much like I threw away much time in my younger life on Civ 1, MOM was another game that just had the right stuff.
Ah. The glory days of PC gaming. When 320x200 pixels were pretty good. Civ1...MOO1...MOM...Starflight (with FOUR COLOR GRAPHICS!) The wasted hours...the beer...oh, those days of yore were glorious indeed.
I find it intriguing that GalCiv, alone among the video game genre, tracks the "best" players by including quantity of submissions along with quality of submissions. To wit: Remember the Atari games? One game, one entry on the high score list. Want to move up? Play your next game better. I understand why Stardock went in a different direction for GalCiv. By allowing a player to build up a ranking with multiple submissions, it drives up the desire to continue to play the game. So, there'
Remember - if all else fails, it's probably Microsoft's fault. ;)
Carafrap: Had the same problem. That's a DirectX file. If you update your DirectX drivers at microsoft.com, the game will most likely run just fine - you shouldn't even have to reinstall the game itself.
At the journey's end Is the sidewalk to my house. Strangers live here, now.
Ah. My old master Qui-Gon returns at last. Greetings from one who was once known as Obi-Wan. "Strangers" they may be, but the newer, younger Jedi have held true to the old ways. As has Master Yoda, who's either off on another FPS gaming hiatus or in an another alcohol-induced coma. If you haven't stumbled across the "Empires" forum yet, check out the icon for it on the le
It works both ways though. Just look at how many Americans were willing to critise the Spanish internal domestic election. Solitair, judging from a sampling of talk radio, newspaper and TV sound bites that I ran ac
Brad, So, if I UNCHECK "Enable MCP SmartStartup" in the SDC settings pane, SDCMP (and for that matter anything else) won't load unless I manually start SDC? Not having Object Desktop, I only use SDC for game updates and the chat room, so it isn't really necessary for me to have it run 24/7.
Unless I'm missing it, there is no indication whether a candidate is the incumbent. This would have a drastic effect on voter response, particularly as the fantasy setup is adjustable - the incumbent would gain an advantage in a calm or prosperous situation, a disadvantage in hard times, less of an advantage from TV interviews, etc.
Just successfully played my first game through. A few thoughts: There should be a running total of electoral votes throughout the campaign, "as if the election were held today." Yes, I could figure it out with a pencil, BUT... As others have mentioned, some of the text strings are too long - particularly on the TV interviews. Some sort of "reality meter" needs to be worked into negative campaigning and negative ads. As Schwar
Regarding Post #33 - never mind; it's a DirectX file. Updated to the current version of DirectX and it loads fine.
Attempted to download 0.70[b].005 through Drengin.net. I'm unable to launch the game at all, receiving the following error message in a pop-up box titled "PolMachine.exe - Unable to Locate Component": "This application has failed to start because d3d9.dll was not found. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem." I have uninstalled and reinstalled twice; the second time, I checked the box for removing saved games etc., and als
Black Shade, you can also pay by check, so you're not out of luck yet.
deathy, Another note here. Remember that the happier your population, the greater the number of them that actually file a tax return. If you can bite the bullet on income in the short term while your population grows, it will pay big dividends in tax dollars later. Also remember that you need all of those people to grow your culture stat and to fill up those troop transports. :HOT: If you're having cash problems, a good strategy is to immediately make a beeline to re
Huh, i was always a citizen at wincustomize and a veteren here.
Probably just needed a wincustomize refresh, or a logout and login. The accounts are identical; vets here are vets there, as far as I know.
That's odd...my nick and profile pic were just fine, but I've been demoted to Citizen over at wincustomize.com. Did Stardock manage a partial recovery already, or was the damage incomplete?
I once ran across a thread where a few players were using destabilization to force a (potential?) enemy to counter by funding propaganda at their planets. If your economy is stronger than theirs, this could be an effective money trap - run them into the red (and thus kill their production) by forcing them to keep up with you on morale spending. Neat trick, IF it works...
The wheely thingy even has an effect on tributes. Wow! This works in more places than I thought.
Yeah, but it's not as useful when dialing in cash, influence points and such because it "jumps" - it uses increments other than 1. It's almost easier just to use the slider bars there... Oddly enough, you CAN type numbers in directly on the diplomatic screens, but I don't have the patience to type in a number, see if an offer stays green, type in another number...
mcdeath, Regarding Issue #1. You CAN set any number of colonists you want, with only a couple of extra seconds' work. Move the slider bar to 0, then use the scroll wheel on your mouse to set any number you want. I admit it would be nice to be able to type the number in directly...
Consikwens, Sounds like you're definitely having problems with the cutscene movie files - the robot welder (on a colony ship hull) is, I believe, the last movie that plays before the game itself kicks in. This seems doubly the case because your game is apparently working fine when you skip the cutscenes entirely. Short of the usual suspects - video and sound card drivers being up to date, current Direct X drivers, etc. - I don't know of anything that would affect the movie file
