Hi folks, I'm an old-time stardock user who has gotten fed up with windows and has now switched completely to Linux. I'd like to try out GalCiv2 (since I was so impressed with the original), but of course the SDCentral installer doesn't work with cedega. Will there be a standalone installer I can download for GalCiv2 to try running it in cedega? (I don't want to buy the CD since I already have a full totalgaming subscription) thanks, Marko

My apologies for not being more specific in my previous posts. Let me address the issues one by one - The Starbase cost doesn't seem to scale with galaxy size or number of habitable planets - The AIs attitude towards you seems to affect the price (though I'm not 100% sure of that) - The price for starbases is not highly dependent on number of modules (aka 4 modules don't cost half as much as 8 modules) - The price per starbase is about 20-30kbc with equal diplomacy. The prob

This post is in regard to previous posts in the masochistic threads in the strategies forum. I thought it'd be good to note it here so there's a greater chance the devs will read it. I won't repeat the previous posts (you can look them up) but just a summary. You can buy out starbases from the AI for rather cheap(especially with the +70 diplo pick). Even starbases with resources. This makes even the masochistic games kind of easy (assuming you survive in the beginning). Try buy

Hey Staffa, sorry I don't remember the statistics of that particular game..But by 2194 I usually have pop in the trillions (depending on the map of course) and I'm usually mopping up by then. I don't remember the last time a game lasted to 2200. Since you wanted a sense of scoring, when I do huge/abundant/maso (5x incredible), I usually finish by the mid 2190s, have all techs by early 2190s. And I'll usually turn off culture victory and just do alliance/conquest. These games seem to yield someth

buy out the stronger AI's military bases (those sitting on military resources) this is usually the reason why the smaller empires get hammered militarily. You can even give some of them to the weaker AI to bolster them if the starbase is far enough from the aggressor that they probably wont attack it. ~SDC~

First, yes the AI does get a starting PQ ability of 30% (If I remember correctly) In reference to Def Zep's post, I wouldn't be so pessimistic about the maso. It has its weaknesses..As for the strategy of letting the AI colonize your nearby planets and then invading, I wouldn't do that. You should find the AI also gets a huge ground defense bonus. You're going to lose a lot of pop early in the game and that's very very bad since then you'll never be able to outproduce the AI. B

But what if you're playing against 5 incrediable AIs Ellestar? I actually think it's easier to play with all the AIs at Incredible than some Incredible and some Genius because the Incredible AIs will take over the weaker ones fairly quickly (and then turn on you). ~SDC~

I agree Ellestar..I wish I'd made my first post before 1.04 came out, that way maybe they could've done something about it. I just finished my first maso 1.04 win with buying out starbases, but I gotta tell you, I don't think I could've won without that, especially since the AI now starts off with something like 30% planet ability. ~SDC~

Boy, Maso 1.04 got a heck of a lot tougher. In the game I just played now the AIs built 8 TGs/wonders in the first 30 turns. However it seems that they made the techs worth a lot more in trading..so now you can buy resource starbases with only 2 or 3 techs..I anticipate winning this game, but not without buying out the AIs starbases. ~SDC~

Thanks, Snuis and DMF As for the TG, my strategy wasn't that dependent on them. I didn't use the TGs to get techs, but to get the AIs to fight each other. And I only sold the morale and military TGs. But actually I just played my last 3 games (2 maso, 1 crippling) with a new strategy that works even better. I don't know how it'll be affected by the new version, but I don't see anything in the updates that should affect it. You see I was playing a game(on masochist) w

I just posted my second masochistic game. I tried this on a hunch and it seems to have worked both times. I found I could win the game with minimal military. In this last game for example, the first ship I built was an overlord. I just didn't build many military ships (except constructors). The only time I'd build them was when there was an enemy transport near my planets. Just rush buy to intercept the transport. The AI kept making demands from me of course, but I j
