Quoting Mmrnmhrm, reply 19 Can someone name a land based game similar to this that has a better AI? I'd really like to hear it. HOMM VI? Warlock? MOM? Civilization V? Other than Galactic Civilizations, which doesn't have magic, I can't think of one. - HOMM III (WoG) - Civilization IV (Beyond the sword) Ev

Good points! Imho, the best diplomatic system has Civ 4 BtS. In comparison to that, FE has a rather weak and exploitable diplomatic system and above all a lousy diplomatic AI. I hope they get this improved soon as it very bad for the long time experience. The games always follow the steps you mentioned. No surprises, so no incentive to play again.

But make sure the AI builds their pioneers at the right time. Otherwise it will be nerfed again and probably more than human players. Even on hard

Makes my suspicious side wonder how many other, harder to check issues, were declared as fixed without actually being so... If we cannot trust the change logs and have to double-check every fix reported, then this board - and our enjoyment of the game - will go south pretty damn fast!
Please don't be so rush. I wrote about the different results between manual and auto combat several weeks ago, but it looks like it's still not fixed. I avoid autocombat completely as you cheat on yourself when using it. You were able to win otherwise unwinable battles with magic users or monsters with special abilities.

Or like wondering heroes or visiting heroes like in MoM (my god, a 18 years old game has better mechanics..... almost unbelievable)
I don't think we need more heroes. The AI has to use them in a much better way. Not running around in my country alone trying to raze my rescources which they never reach in time. Or giving the

After you have played several games, "hard" becomes too easy and "expert" boring, because you have to use strategies that drag out the game and fights, but eventually you will win anyway. Next you try "ridiculous" and get angry about the unfair cheats they gave the AI to remain competitive (extreme beelining, gang bang of your former warm friends, etc.), and the gaming experience gets more worse. That's definitely the wrong way to "improve" the AI. But even under this diff
i suspect in autocombat maidens never attack until they reach archer while in real combat they reach melee militia and even if they would move towards archer they hit militia on the run
I checked the autocombat log (details) again. It showed the maidens reached the archers after 3 rounds and killed them before they had any contact with the militia. This means in autocombat the archers stand in front of the militia!

I did some other autocombat testing under 1.0 that could be of interest for you: 2 spearmaidens attack my city defended by 3 militia and 1 archer. The militia always win the autobattle. According to the details report, the spearmaidens approach the archers, kill them first (first?, they shouldn't reach them directly), but finally fall to the militia with one or two militia units killed too. The details show militia or archer attacks with sometimes more

Early in a game I attacked some spiders with only my hero and champ. The attack went horribly wrong so when both were poisoned and had only 2 or 3 health points left I clicked on fast end to start a new game. To my surprise I had won! If I had continued this battle manualy I couldn't have won even with the best of luck ever. Next game my damaged hero fell in the darkling quest and his lone level 1 champ buddy remained alone, near death fr

Then the devs corrected "howl" and I had some bad surprises in the early game. Now under 0.992 I took some caution to attack them.
I combined betrayers with natural leader and can go around and hire all heroes for free off the map. I love it but is it not a bit overpowering? Shouldn't there be more of a maintenance cost for heroes to prevent you from being able to hire everyone all at once and not having too many issues? It is very sustainable!
It's a problem of difficulty. That extremist expansion AI we had in beta 4 needs to be standard for each race on hard and above. Below that, let the AI only have a few cities. The problem is that there are light users and more competitive users. I prefer a tooth and nail fight for territory with monsters having the final say in who lives or dies. Light users should be able to expand at their leisure if they are having fun just playing the game. F

The dragon Eye quest where you meet the girl and have to pay 20 crystals can be finished without having any crystals. In the first dialog as well as in the second at the other location the option to pay the crystals is grayed out, but nevertheless you end up with the dragon eye. Saves available if needed.

The AI build an outpost in my territory, right next to my capital. Not that it should bother me much because it was immediately converted back next turn, but if I had higher level improvments on my resources I had to build them again. Screenshots and savegames before/after are available. Possible hint: My faction, not the enemy, has the arcane outpost (or what it is called) ability and I used it multiple times.
