At 1st Contact with any major race, you'll see they are at war with the Pirates and Space Sharks. You may never see them, even with a long game in a Hugh Galaxy! There is the "Pirates are roving the Shipping Lanes" random occurance. When that comes up, you may actually see Pirates.

-khel Go to the Colony Info screen and hit the "details" button, that will show the specifics of the Colony (Governor, existing improvements, the Text blurb about the Planet, etc). There is a "Back" button and a button to destroy the Colony. Click that, it'll ask if you're sure and that's that! Keep in mind; it's really early and I'm describing this from memory (I play a lot of games), but that should do it.
i mean can i be the best by just playing the game as i go.
That absolutely how I learned! The game has a learning curve and practice makes perfect! Start at the lowest possible difficulty so you can become familiar with the Game Mechanics. Fool around with different spending settings and tech-paths. This is one of those games that's "easy to learn, difficult to master"!
then you aren't spying the AIs
Absolutely! If it was happening that often, it sounds as if you were putting no money into spying. Keeping an eye out will yield so much more than just avoiding that particular nusance: stolen techs, info on when you're being ploted against, etc.

I am NOT an expert by any means; and there are a lot of people on the boards who know more than me but: my advice to everyone is to dis-able your Windows Auto Update and wait. Microsoft is using us as Beta-Testers for many new apps (some are Longhorn apps)! I'm going to wait until the patches for the Update start rolling out before I download SP2.
Those skimpy beach volleyball uni's would be tons better if the competitors actually had a chest to fill them out.
If you look at some pictures of the players in other outfits you can see how restrictive those Sports-Bras can be! :d
Walking is the dumbest event.
Wait till they make "Throwing a Rock at the Ground" an Olympic event. ;)

Hey, How about that US Basketball Team! They absolutely represent the USA! If you've already got yours, why try? They're a perfect argument for NOT allowing Pros to represent us! No hunger there; every one of them will go back to Multi-Million dollar jobs so why try. BTW: Larry Brown FINALLY gets Iverson out of his life, and then...
Only the last game I uploaded hasn't appeared
Had the same thing happen. The game appeared on my player info screen, but was not counted or calculated into my score. Took a couple of days of trying by hitting "Refresh Empire", but one day it finally took.
Possibly "It's life Jim, but not as we know it"
LOL I appreciate the primer Strek! And I mean that, Chemestry is a weak point for me. I believe Life is common in the Galaxy, but common in a big place can still leave it "few and far between". There are probably a lot more sections of the Galaxy where Life can't exisist at all than where it could thrive. As for what's out there: probably a lot of stuff much like here.
that claimed Silicon based life was not possible
That's been the general Theory for (don't quote me) about the last 20 or so years. Prior to that, it was thought possible. Now, I'm beginning to hear views that are saying it IS possible again. It's an interesting concept; and I think sometimes scientists think too "mammal-centric". Many of the great visions in Science were originally from fiction.
Slime doing quite well on top of pond water or in leaf detritis
Actually, we already have the advanced version of this life-form here on Earth, we are more familiar with them as "Politicians". Seriously though (and not to get too off topic...), what are everyone's thoughts on Silicon-based life? Possible or impossible?
Lets face it spying in Galciv is one area that could be improved
I both agree and disagree! (Hey, I could be a Politician!) I think more goes on with spying than we see; so I think we should see it. It would be nice to be able to break an Alliance between other Civs; and I think we should get more info about what is happening due to our spying.
You could raid with no colours flying with a percentage chance of being caught
Exactly!!!! :CONGRA

Wow! I've sat back and watched this long enough: There are questionable real-world events that are not getting this much scrutiny! If everyone here took the time put into just one of their posts and used it to contact someone about a real issue they feel strongly about, we could change the world! CariElf: I think you've more than answered every point!

I've said it before, I'll say it again: I would LOVE the ability to raid trade routes in addition to just being able to blow them away. Also, the ability to back freebooters and pirates much like the major sea powers during the 18th & 19th Centuries. Right now, the Pirates are everyone's enemy; wouldn't it be cool to be able to feed them ships and support in exchange for some booty. (Pirate treasure, not nice behinds) LOL
