Confused about Metaverse

Hi All,

I just won my forth victory in a row this time a polital one. I ended up with a score of just over 3000. Now my inital score was the same (3008 from memory), I can't remember my second score but the third score was high for me, 4003. Now even without the 2nd score I put my total score as being just over 7000. I've submitted on adverage one game a day. For some reason Metaverse has me as just over 6000. Can anyone explain why?

Regards,

Raven

This FAQ was prepared many months back. Hope it is still accurate, but is should give you an idea.

A question arose over why some Metaverse scores were higher than others. Ray the Wanderer explained how game scores are adjusted by the Metaverse. Here is his explanation:

The key reason behind this disparity in scores is the monthly block effect.

For you, all your games are still in one 30-day monthly block. So the basic formula of total number of points divided by sqrt total number of games is applied to give you a score of 49,562. You have 13 games in your denominator.

This player has games stretched over a period of time so he has three 30-day monthly blocks. The basic formula is applied to each of his blocks separately:

Current 30-day monthly block
8/16/2003 13,420
9/7/2003 10,860
9/9/2003 15,220
Total : 39,500
Divided by sqrt of 3 (3 games) = 22,805
Current block's scores are not aged so this block's contribution to his overall score is 22,805.

1-month old block
7/20/2003 14,640
7/26/2003 11,970
Total : 26,610
Divided by sqrt 2 (2 games) = 18,816
Multiply by 95% = 17,875
Ageing is 5% for every month for the Metaverse listing scores and 10% for player profile scores.

2 month old block
7/5/2003 9,640
7/5/2003 5,089
Total : 14,729
Divided by sqrt 2 (2 games) = 10,415
Multiply by 90% = 9,373
Overall score = 22,805 + 17,875 + 9,373 = 50,053.

For your scoring, you have 4 games with scores of 3008, 2902, 4320 and 3064.

If you sum them up, you get 13,294. Dividing that by the square root of 4 (you have 4 games), you get a score of 6,647.

*sighs* oh well its the fun of the game not the scoring that counts guess I'll just have work a bit harder to climb up the ranks of Metaverse

It takes quite a while to get up the ranks. I remember way back when, way at the bottom.

Just keep at it, and you will get to the top eventually. I only occassionally submit (click on my name to see my record) and you can see that it just takes persistance. :)

Ignoring scores is probably the best way to get the most fun out of this game.

Trying to maximise scores would only lead you down a path of repetitive tedium.

Not to mention extreme frustration with the scoring method used for the Metaverse. Ever worse if you don't play for a while, at least for some. For some reason, even with the recent recalc of the Meta, some people haven't submitted for 2 months and there score doesn't move.

Well its a good thing that GC is such an additive game then. Can't wait for GC2! :D

Yeah thats right Raven it is an addictive game! Just keep trying, you'll get up there but most of all have fun and learn new things in every game you play of GalCiv! ;) (P.S.: I'm pretty new to this game too, I've only had it for a year and I learned to keep trying and have as much fun as I can! LOL

I have to say my interest in Metaverse is not so much achieving top place as it is the medals the game gives you that are included in your forum posts. This is one of the coolest features I've come across in a game. I get a buzz each time I achieve a new one.

Been away for a while but AP games do count on the Metaverse don't they? Only the last game I uploaded hasn't appeared :notsure:

Yes AP games count. Try resubmitting the game. Every once in awhile games fail to submit on first try.

Had the same thing happen. The game appeared on my player info screen, but was not counted or calculated into my score. Took a couple of days of trying by hitting "Refresh Empire", but one day it finally took.

Hmm, tried resubmitting but its still not on my personal info page - rather like when I upgraded to drengin and needed to update my resigtration somehow. Has the change to totalgaming.net done something similar?

No. Looks like Stardock will have to fix your problem.

Aha! Ihad seti@home running in the background and once I switched that off it uploaded fine. Thought it was only stardock central it interfered with but apparently not. :notsure:
