When the AI gives you ships it does not bother to bring then anywere near your space. Most of the time they are out of their max travel range and dead in the water from the moment you get them. This is especialy annoying because of course they generaly give you the ships when you need them urgently to protect yourself. :( Would it be practicle to make it so the AI moves ships at least some distance in your general direction before giving then to you? Or maybe those ships would automatic

Minor civs are higly resistant to cultural 'flipping' i dont even know if you can do it at all. Frequently if a race is about to be destroyed in a war they will give all their systems to their closest friend.

Staffa raises a good point about bonuses. that is all unknown to us... however with just the base stats its predicted that it will on average take 10 vets to kill an Axe. This sounds realy weird till you notice that the Axe's base defence (5)is almost double the 'vet's base attack.(3) The axe only loses about 4 hp per engagement.

this isnt realy a problem IMHO. your complaining that a light combat/patrol craft cant easily kill a heavily armored defence ship from the next generation of technology. Get your hands on an even slightly heavyer ship and the problem will disapear. Go do some testing in the Simulator over in the Metaverse, but i would say that overall Battlehammers are you best bet.

A couple strange things ive noticed about AI ships and their use. The Independant League worlds i can see are protected by Battleaxes Level 0, they have 156 hit points! how the heck did they manage that? thats like 4 times the base HP. The sedond od thing was when the Torians wo were at war staarted pumping out StarFighter by the dozen, this was mind you in the days wen everyone had Dreughtnaughts and the Rangers were starting to come off the assembly lines. But no they produce

I'm sure the more experienced and...technical players have lots of in deapth stuff but here are a few things that help me. Dont buy things on credit after the early start. Sell ships, i do this quite a bit, the AI pays well for them. You cant realy base you econmy around it for various reasons but it certainly is good bang for your buck. Minor military powers will pay through the nose to get their hands on a Dreadnaught or a couple battle hammers. Dont build every plan

The Flagships are the alien's survery ships, you dont see them much but the Alterians gave me theirs once when we were friends and i was at war, came with pretty impressive stats :) If you build too many survey ships they wont turn out all that beefy...

Originaly Posted by Sloejack >"After reading a hundered or so messages in this thread the recurring theme of events needing to give bonuses to good (and sometimes neutral) instead of just negatives seems just wrong. If choosing good gave bonuses too, then you'd never really be anything but chaotic neutral (you'd choose the best ones and over time probably just balance out choosing both good and evil)." That is an issue, however i think you could often get around it. How about h

I would like to see an ACTUAL United Planets Council instead of this sort of Monopoly chance card arrangement we have now. If its a galactic forum why cant the player bring up issues for consideration? why arnt the things that are brought up related to events occuring in the galaxy at the time? This poping up every four years voting on a random topic and then promptly disapearing is just silly. Its not a form of government or regulation its a random event. >:( My ideas on what

I can never get anyone to give me much for a trade good...Heck i can often get up around 1000 by selling a Dreadnaught to some minor military power; more then for most trade goods, it just doesnt realy seem like that great an idea to sell them to anyone other then close friends at those prices considering the massive benifiets they give the buyer. :notsure:

>You are right, planetary conquests seem too hard. I also don´t understand why they cost so much population. In the game, everybody sends his entire population to war, not just the soldiers. i find that annoying too. it just doesnt make sense. ...I want to conquer races not commit genocide errr xenocide, why does it seem i have to slaughter every single sentient being on a planet in order to take it? >:( :notsure:

Babylon 5 is the kind of all Space Opera :D i remember when i first started playing GalCiv being REALY confused that Star Bases didnt have population. It just seemed realy realy weird. Making them more planet like should certinaly be considered. Population should probably be limited to a few million (and dependant on habitation modules)

Im on my second game now...this must explain why the Torians are theoreticaly the greatest military power and are constantly at war with everyone but havent taken any systems *in the entire game*. (well war with everyone but me, i have a decent military and am doing too much trade to be worth attacking :) ) They blow up everyones ships by the dozen but the borders never move.(im playing with Normal inteligence levels btw) It does seem like an interesting 'personality' thing but it may have been

'a RTS element' >:( /counts to 10 for self control Are you NUTS? I wish there was a quick way to get an overview of the number and kind of ships defending your systems. Unless i'm missing something, as it stands now deploying garrison forces to were they are needed involves quite a bit of tedius clicking. Not shure what to suggest specificaly though. Juiblex's idea about civilian ships and such has merit.

scouts are uhhh scouts if your trying to use them as military ships in any way you are to put it mildly Insane. Since they are dirt cheap, build one or two early on to find the best planets a little faster and to remove the Fog so your survery ships can see a bunch of anomalys. When those jobs are finished you can park them in other race's sectors to keep an eye on ship movement just like sensor drones. They work fine -and are worthwhile in their own small way- if you use them

heh well im gona say it too. Quote, and Edit would be realy nice. An Off Topic section would be cool. sooner or later or maybe even now this is going to be a community of people who know each other who will occasionaly want to discuss things not directly related to the game. hmmm and does this have any markup tags for italics and such?
