Ok, so I'm working on my first game on the Intelegent setting... so I'm certainly no expert... but I've played most of my dozen games with the "Tight Clusters" setting... and it seems that basically starting position determines victory. Period. I like the fact that tight clusters seems to make a "core" and a "frontier"... but as a somewhat extreme example... in my current game *Everybody* but me and 1 minor race was on the frontier (at least 1 sector separation from the bulk of the

Infrastructure that increases your Economy rules more... or at least as much as Starbases. Money makes the universe go round...
My tips for an normal diff and below (haven't tried harder yet): Taxes: 40-50% Spending: 100% Military:70% Social:0% Research:30% Rush buy a scout. (Whole hog, no lease) Use free colony ship to colonize *another* system (even if you have a class 26 in Sol)... reason being that it only has like 100 peeps on it, and when you build a colony ship it takes people from *all* planets in the system... so pretty soon you have like 18 people on the planet... w
Yeah, my pet peeve is with sector ownership colors... they are way too dim and don't contrast with other empires at all... It would be great to be able to set them ourselves.
I don't like leasing in the early game... it doesn't seem like you are making enough money. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the minimum lease payment is 5/month? So how many leases can you support before you are in a hole you can't claw out of? 4 is more than you are generally making in the begining of the game (15-17 right?) plus your treasury will be depleted by the bulk payments. Seems pretty dangerous... especially if your not building social improvements to increa
I dunno... the game I was refering to in the original post was on a large galaxy... and you couldn't see any empire colors at that zoom level. If you zoom in, other empire's color's *are* semi-visible... but even the colors that are visible, aren't really all that distinct vs. other empires. And I don't like my empire being "negative space"... It seems to me that this is a common issue with their contrast... 1. I want to be able to be at full zoom out, see at a glance w
Oh yeah... if I zoom in, and flick the switch a few times, I can see a *slight* change in color... is there any way to make it a little more, uhm... noticeable? To me it looks like the blackness of space with a slight blue tint... The gameplay examples seemed to show a much brighter display...
What is the threshold in influence for a sector changing to your empire's color? I'm 22 years into the game, and I have yet to see a sector on the entire map be any color other than black... and yes, I do have the button on the map pressed. I have 68% of a cultural victory... and I have like 1.2k influence in Sol's sector... three stars with multiple colonies each and no enemies... but still the sector is not owned by me... What gives? Is there some tech I have to researc
I seem to have fixed my problem... or it was fixed by the "Powers that Be"? Well what I did: 1) Inkove my right to post on Galciv Forums using e-mail + password (never done before) 2) Post (see above) 3) Remove EVERYTHING Stardock/Drenghin/Galciv Related 4) Reinstall SDC RC1 from e-mail link 5) Correct Acccount Password (had tried different ones thinking I had changed it) 6) Login worked, said to reboot... 7) Downloading now... ~SDC~
I get the same thing as mrpepsi... I purchased Beta. Just upgraded SDC when I got the e-mail. I get the "login failed" message... I have checked and rechecked my account info in the account info section... but no dice. The weird thing is, if I go to "Register Products" and put my serial # into the GalCiv section (with same account info) it tells me my product registered. (But nothing other than the popup happens) I can also log onto the chat... and see the discus
