I'd like to import one of these archives into Icon Packager so that I can apply them automatically across my system. As this seems to be a common icon pack format across multiple Linux distros I assume there must be some interoperability with Icon Packager, which to my knowledge is the only Icon pack solution for Windows. (if I'm wrong on this point please tell me).
I haven't looked at Icon Packager, but I doubt the naming scheme is the same. The Linux ic

It kind of needs extensions to make the UI usable and "pretty". Otherwise it's too old-school even for me. It's not the fastest browser, but I like it. It was the built-in mail client that made me try it. Time goes fast. It wasn't that long ago Internet was n

I think a small program which can tweak the Explorer background would be a bestseller for Stardock. Most people won't use WindowBlinds, it's overkill for a little tweak like that. Maybe this tweak can be included in Groupy? Considering it can be done of course, I read something about Explorer being difficult to tweak.
I have subscribed to Object Desktop for almost a decade (it will be precisely 10 years if I don't renew anymore). I don't really use OD anymore but I used it every day until I stopped using Windows 7. After that my use of Windows has been sporadic. I like to support a good cause and the last renewal was so cheap I didn't think twice about renewing. I think there always was something special about Stardock/Wincustomize, a feeling that it was more driven by passion than money. T

Maybe Intel wants to make patches opt-in instead of opt-out. Intel likely doesn't want new CPUs tested with patches because they will look bad compared to old CPUs that were tested without patches. The question is if Intel can do something with the current Core design. As for Spectre all CPU vendors need to redesign silicon to avoid performance penalty from software workarounds. It will take years before we have CPUs which are safe without performance-sucking patches.
It seems Apple made their UI unskinnable (think Modern app) and that was the reason Flavours development stopped. It was rewritten between Flavours 1 and 2 and the return on investment was probably low. Not because people didn't buy it but because it took years to develop. “Apple introduced a new security policy on OS X El Capitan, preventing every process (even privileged ones) from modifying system files, either on filesystem or dynamically at runtime. Unfortunately, with
Not sure what to make of this: https://www.theregister.co.uk/2018/01/02/intel_cpu_design_flaw/ AMD Ryzen seems to be the winner if patches are selective and only affect Intel CPUs.
Games went from 2D to 3D. The desktop is still 2D. Here's an example of a login screen that is 3D. 3D isn't really useful on the desktop but cool. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f8nm4NpaVXE We have even lost the pseudo-3D stuff and now everything is flat. That being said I actually think Windows 10 looks decent. MS has shaved windowborders so it looks cleaner than Windows 8.1. Even the built-in Windows 10 start
Unfortunately your picture isn't visible. Firefox and WB don't play nicely together I've heard so that could explain Firefox UI problems.
In Firefox menu bar click Help then Troubleshooting Information. It will open a new tab with info. There is a section called Graphics. You may find error messages in that section. If so that would likely be caused by the GPU driver not being good enough. The newest version of Firefox has very detailed Graphics info so I guess hardware acceleration plays a bigger and bigger role. You mention Firefox is a mess and if that's the case you should try starting it with add-ons disabl
I thought we would have computers powered by "the Ether" by now so I'm disappointed. My crazy expectations set me up for disappointment. Life is cruel because there is no guarantee to live long enough to see those things. Electricity seems so old fashioned. And generates heat. Time for something new I say.
That's another reason I don't like Apple... it continually seeks way to make users slaves to its ecosystem... read walled garden. Every time somebody finds a way to exercise a bit of 'software freedom' Apple shuts it down and closes the opportunity for everyone else to use non-Appleware.
Selling devices instead of hardware and software is what both Apple and Microsoft want. It gives them more control. For Apple this ha
issue with gpu drivers? is browser using hardware acceleration? (i don't know the fix.. but those could be the areas to look at)
Yes, modern browsers (all browsers really except those that aren't updated) rely more and more on hardware acceleration. This must be provided by the GPU (graphics card) driver. I recently had the problem that Youtube didn't work in some browsers, because my graphics driver didn't pr
Someone found a nice skin for iPhone? [e digicons]:-"[/e] A nice skin would improve the value proposition. A few thoughts: If you are 40 years or older you probably know what a Commodore 64 is if you were into tech/gaming as a child/adolescent. If you are 35 or younger maybe not. The Amiga was state of the art in 1987. The PC could not match it for many years in the consumer space. Skinning tech (on all platforms) became more and more advanced and peaked between 2007-2010. After 2010 skinning tech has not seen new developments. Instead we have seen regressions. If skinners and user
This is how I think Windows should look out of the box. Then you set color, transparency, blur, stripe effect to your liking. It would be useful if no windows were shown directly under another window, just the wallpaper. It would also be possible to have opaque windows with any color you like, with or without stripe effect. If/when all windows/programs become transparent I would consider skinning "complete". I couldn't upload picture so just the link: <a href="https://postimg.
This feature has been there since Windows 8 for the desktop. In Windows 10 this works for the Modern shell too (boot screen, shut down... not sure about login/lock screen). You had to use Decor in Windows 8 for the Modern shell. It would be difficult to implement this feature in WB because not all skins recolor well. And if you want a "perfect match" it's better to use the settings in WB and do it yourself. Off Topic: I would like a feature that shows the wallpaper under all t
Listen to the music, forget the video. I was inspired by the "radio edit" of this song which cuts out unnecessary bits. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TsWgbBN-sQY Edit: Video is over the top in so many ways and the song has unnecessary parts. Maybe this is "commercial"?
