Glactic Event Ideas

Im fairly new here and this is my first post I'd like to hear a few cool galactic events and thier consequences that anyone has thought up. I think some cool events could add a lot to the game so throw out some ideas. Heres a few of mine. Super Virus A teenage supergeek of (Random Race not Yor Collective), in an attempt to damage Vibrosoft, the Galaxies leading software creator, accidently unleashes a supervirus that spreads throughout the galaxy, damaging and disabling billions of critical computer systems Consequences All races other than yor collective loose 50% production and research for 3 months, yor collective looses 80% production/research for 3 months and emediately declares war on the offending race. War Depression (20% chance of happening if all major races are involved in war for more than three years consistantly) Due to the constant war throughout the galaxy, the galactic economy begins to erode Consequences Loss of 10% of income every year untill 50% of major galactic races find peace I'm sure you guys can come up with better ones than these, lets hear em

How about a plague that will infect all colonies of a randomly chosen race that possesses the Aphrodisiac trade good? Those nasty buggers had it coming!

Galactic events? Collision of the black hole, explosion of star...

New psychotropic drug discovered, your colony X produced nothing this week as they were all sitting on the floor staring at their hands and giggling.

From galciv 1 you know that events will be the first thing people mod. But I don't know how much the events engine will allow you to make really drastic game-play alterations. Usually an event was no mroe than a slight bonus to something for some time, or a colony blowing up. I don't think there's anythign that will let u put blackholes on the map, etc.

As long as you can control chances for event it game start up options - the more different evens the better.

I like the idea of a galactic plague, one that hits races with aphrodesiac is to specific, although it is a funny idea( STDs on a galactic scale, so much for the drug inspired interstellar free love movement) I think good galactic events can add a lot of randomness to the game, an option to turn them on/off and control how often they happen would be good though.

Intergalactic drug problems, your right Ugleb that could be interesting, how about the intergalactic war on drugs

The Torians keep smuggling Superweed into human colonies...

cmon people, I know you have more good ideas, lets hear em

Actually I'm just loving the image of an entire planet sitting on the floor wide eyed muttering "dude my hands are HUGE!"

This is not GALACTIC event (It does not effect whole galaxy) but I don't know if it was in GC1:
Huge comet (random_name) heading for our colony (colony_name)
Possible options:
1) Dispatch starships to intercept comet
(Chance that fragmets will hit colony anyway, and it's expensive, depends on planet defences)
2) Evacuate most of the planet (not as expensive but big infrastructure damage)
3) Evacuate only ground zero (causes dissident among your planets in empire but cheap)

Also if comet hits you could choose:
1) Start rebuilding immediately and take care of everything (Pay huge amount of cash but recovers colony rapidly)
2) Rebuild slowly by diverting excess industry of other planets to this planet but send only basic supplies
3) Take care of people first; Send food and medical supplies but dont rebuild
4) Evacuate the planet

1) Lack of Adamantium (Or some other galactic-important resource)
2) Space pirates rampaging through universe, dissrupting trade
3) (This is more like United Planets issue) Ban on space-flyes ussage (Some animals which live in space and they are appreciated as a spice/zoo animal/luxury/raw material for somethin, but they are near extinction)

A wrong shipment gets send to your homeplanet and the atmosphere is contaminated, so you have to abandone your homeplanet and create a new homeworld.

Hey, you stole that from MOO1!

Maybe the dev team should concentrate more on making Galactic Events very mod-able, and not so much on coming up with new events. Let the community play around with mod ideas and have Stardock incorporate them into the release closer to the end?

I agree, the way Galciv works allow awesome and incredible new events to be created, many of these events could enrich future versions of Galciv.

Immortality discovered! But, how do we feed them all? (It's based on a small weed from Deneb IV).
Part of your empire breaks away to form a new civilisation.
Breakthough - delivers a random part of the tech tree to you.
Pork barrel politics - reduces civ's economics ability

Breakthrough! - Excrement Transporters: You never need to go to the toilet again, as your poo is "beamed" directly from your colon to a mass disposal facility. Productivity increased by 5%, and Morale increased by 5%.

AND

Disaster! - Dissidents attack a "mass disposal facility" with an explosive device. The sh*t really hits the fan!

I'd like to see three classes of game events:
1. Local/Planet
Something happens on a specific planet, or perhaps an entire system. This could be unrest, population boom, whatever. Small impact overall, makes your planets feel more dynamic and unique.

2. Regional
An event that impacts all systems within a certain radius. This may be a disease that spreads through travel lanes and gets so far before it's quarantined. Uprisings and factional friction (Political Party A is strong in this region and is unhappy with your policies)

3. Galactic
Everything you own across the game. This could be an empire-wide, or galaxy-wide economic exchange crash. Maybe unknown aliens from beyond invade. These would be really big events that would significantly impact gameplay. Might even hit multiple races at once.

Agreed. Good idea.

The three classes idea could feed into the good/evil ratings ... a local event would have a smaller impact on moving you to the good or evil end of the spectrum than a regional, while a galactic event would have a major impact on whether you are a good or evil civ. A galactic plague that hit multiple races could offer a major move to the good side of the spectrum if you forgo aiding some of your colonies in order to render assistance to other races, while a major move to the evil side might be stealing a supply of a drug that cures the plague from another race, dooming billions who were depending on that supply.

In case it wasn't clear, I like the three classes idea.
