Omnibrowser.com: Want to share revenue with skin designers.

Trying to get my shareware project off the ground. There's now a trial version of Omnibrowser for download at www.Omnibrowser.com/Setup.exe. This is the first build of the project...Not quite to beta yet, but getting there. The exe is encrypted, and this version will expire about April 15th. Also got the homepage up.

The goal is to produce a skinnable browser that allows users to construct browsing environments that can distributed as email attachments. You can completely change the browsing environment from the Environs menu. So one minute you could be in something like AOL or MSN, with broad categories of links, and then switch to something very specific, like a Chess channel, for example. Users can switch between them just by making a menu choice. Try it...there are a couple of bogus environments that will install with the beta.

I'm using ActiveSkin from www.SoftShape.com. There is an ExampleNew.skn in the Skins directory of the application that you can look at to see how the skin is structured... Download and install the skinning program from www.VisionSimulations.com/_activeskin43.zip Once it's installed, start skinbuilder...it's pretty cool. The current skin is crappy, but that's because I'm not a designer....

My goal is to get the complete website set up and then share a percentage of sales with the skin designers. I want to be able to offer each skin designer a subdomain on the site that would showcase his work.

Looking for some guys who want to see this project go and maybe make some money. We don't have to take over the browsing world to succeed. Even a small fraction of the market would be great.

It is a great idea, but you got some big competetors in the browser world. The biggest being mozilla and opera. Microsoft still dominates it, but I believe its hold is lessening. I wish you luck, but I can't use a windows browser as I don't use windows.

one of Microsoft's biggest downfalls is the lack of window tabs, each new window fills the taskbar....thats a no no in my opinion

Then group them... I have my XP setup so that any app with more than 2 windows gets grouped. I personally don't like tabbed interfaces for browsers but it may just be that it's something that thakes getting used to..

grouped is just annoying, i like the tabs because not only do they aviod using bar space but they still remain in full view

I can't live without tabbed browsing. I use firefox now 100% of the time, and the tabbed browser extensions make tabbed browsing easy. Perhaps if opera or other browser could be set up and customized as much as firefox I would use them, but being able to set up links so if they link to a seperate main address they open a new tab is something I haven't found besides through tabbed extensions for firefox. Just some ideas for the omnibrowser. Get the tabbed browsing set up so people can customize it so it will work how they want, or they can just turn it off if they so choose.

Here is a freeware browser with tabbed browsing and pop-up blocking built in that uses the IE engine rather than mozilla http://www.crazybrowser.com/index.htm

I can't understand why people wouldn't want or dislike tabbed browsing. Managing tabs is much easier than managing windows. I could never tell before which window was the one I wanted with IE, but with tabs its right in front of me. Its much faster to switch tabs than to switch windows also.
To each their own of course, just don't know why you enjoy suffering so much
Sometimes I don't think people give new ideas a thorough workout.

so anybody forces you to use tabbed browsing, or why do want it to have "a short life" (whatever that might mean)?
or did you just install a new version of the random nonsense generator?

And I really like FireFox. I am glad i downloaded it.


Anyway, Goodluck with your program. I think it will do well. If I was a better skinner I would ake you up on that offer.

If you don't like tabbed browsing, then don't use it. Last time I used Opera, it the option of either being tabbed or having seperate windows during installation. Why wish for the demise of a feature you don't like when you can simply just not use it?

Rajjar...You had my interest until you said ActiveSkin.............   ...... I may give it a shot anyway, but I didn't get very far the last time I tried skinning with it.
