Litestep OTS2 and IconPackager 2.5

Manual assignment of the icons would work....though using LiteSTEP means you don't 'need' icons as such....

most icons should work. else that would be a bug in IconPackager.
90% of the icons that can´t be changed by IconPackager when explorer is not running as shell (and many more that can never be changed by IconPackager, no matter what shell is running) are in &windir$system32\system32.dll

Jafo: some people use file managers or open documents with the open dialog when they do work with their computers of course that´s a small minority (most people just use IE, OutlookExpress and Kaaza), but those people still need icons.

Manually assigning the icons doesn't work either. I don't have any icons on my desktop, but I'd like to be able to change them in my windows explorer (the folders icons, etc) but thanks anyway.

i was talking about resource hacking. if you have no clue what that is than stay away from it and educate yourself about it, BEFORE you touch files.

moshi, I was refering to what Jafo had said. I do know what resource hacking is. I was just hoping that I wouldn't have to edit anything. I have resource hacker, hex editor, and exescope for that. Should I need anything else?

I've been using the Microangelo software for years and so far has worked perfectly. I've assigned custom icons to most of my folders and those files that support them. Other than that, I guess you could delve into the depths of the Registry, though as with hacking, i don't recommend that unless you know what you're doing.

DONT hack anything..... heres the fix i used ....................

ok to get them changed, open icon packager. go to icons and cursors .. at the right there wll be a "individual drive mode" button. use it . it will allow manual changing of the system icons like hdd's etc.....this is the only way i was able to get icon packager to change the system icons with LiteStep OTS2.......

While normally I would second this after having several bad experiences with hacking my files. changing icons will almost always not affect anything. Just never ever use somebody elses system files and always back up your own.

But it is great that you got it working

Actually, it's only working on the main desktop icons such as "My Computer, My Network Places" etc.. but doesn't seem to be working on the rest of the system. *shrug* oh well. I guess if I want to use Litestep I'll have to deal with the problems that come along with it.

yep.

hellish you may have to manually assign the icons that arent being assigned a new icon .i had to manually change all the HDD icons to get them to work.

also refresh the screen after you apply them sometimes litestep dont allow for screen refreshing automatically so when an icon changes you wont see it ......good example is after ejecting a disk while looking at "my computer" window it normally dont allow the icon to switch back to the default while the window is open
.. but if you refresh the window, it allows the updated icon to be shown ...just another little bug of litestep.. but the bonuses are IMO worth the minor annoyance

HG_Eliminator: does that allow you to change CD drives icons for example? no.
DigitalChet: the methods Microangelo uses are not different from IconPackager. in XP many icons can no longer be changed via the registry.

resource hacking is the only way to change all icons. if you had bad experiences with it that was nothing but a user error. people that download some hacked files from the internet and then wonder why half of their interface is Spanish are plain stupid.

moshi: on windows 2000 it DOES change the CD drives icons. so answer would be YES . no need for hacking on win 2000. And since he hadent stated which OS he was useing i figure my sugestion could help.......but hey lets haveum hack resource settings not even knowing what his OS is.

I'm running XP Pro SP1, but that's beside the point. If I were going to hack anything, I know how to go about it. I've done it before for various icons and the bar in IE6. But I'd rather not do that if I don't have to.

HG_Eliminator: he states it does not work. that makes it pretty obvious he is using XP.

IconPackager worked fine before, it changed every icon on my system. But now with Litestep running, it's pretty much useless.
