I just reread #21....your not using ODNT...your using StyleXP? Don't know of a way to port a WB to a MSStyle

I'm not using stylexp, just the uxtheme.dll or whatever for msstyles. The reason I don't use stylexp or windowblinds is because I don't want to have a 'whole' program installed just to skin my system if all I have to do is add a .dll to my system.

Sorry....I'm not much help here with this uxtheme.dll....I tend to steer clear of hacked system files Just a personal preference thing.

That's the funny thing.. Most of my desktop modifications came from editing system files, replacing and editing.. I never was scared to dig deep for something that I wanted to do with my desktop. Reinstalling is easy when you have 540gigs of hd space to back up your stuff on.

...and then, without warning, jealousy rears it's ugly head....

while i agree the squared glossy themes get a little redundant, they are of good quality and nice to look at ... definately not crap....

Not quibbling with your ideas per se, but jeez you'd probably could incite more interest for some one to work with you if you exercised a tad more tact.

Although you do appear to like some of essorant's work so that's a redeeming feature.

The GUI Olympics likely will be an occasion for people to pull out the stops and do the tour de force thing so I'm guessing there won't be many really minimalistic skins. But perhaps someone will submit some adventures in minimalism just to widen the variety of works.

Not nessesarily minimalistic, but definitely something with taste. Maybe some flat functional menu's with a floating effect and good color coordination. Shadows, etc. When I see these themes on here, I see people looking for depth by using the domed shapes and rounded looking menu's. But that, for some reason tends to turn me off. That's why I say 'floating' and shadows.. I see it as a better way to add depth. But I think in the GUIOlympics, they'll be looking for great functionality and even better looks Good color coordination, maybe some GUI movement, like moving hidable menu's and fading effects, but very smooth and very streamline. Something that's catchy, but not overdone.

Try playing with WindowFX....has a lot of different effects...Shadows, Transitions effects, Fades, Transparency, Window Tiling...

Yea, I really like that program. I'm starting to mess with DesktopX2.10 and I'm creating new objects, but I have no idea where to start. Are there any tutorial's that I could look over to get an idea of what does what?

Hmmm - whilst I agree with you that a lot of themes/skins here (and everywhere else) tend to be of a kind (guilty myself) this phrase implies that what you like is the only thing that can be "real taste"...and of course anything you don't like is poor taste by definition then. On that attitude I couldn't disagree with you more.

Hellish, you have a right to say what you want to say, and how you want to say it. I just want to say a little something too.

That guy who made killer, do you know he didn't even know about skinning anything until very recently (like only about 8 months back)? Do you know that he is a very nice, hard working (carpenter by trade and not a graphic design specialist) guy that goes out of his way to listen to people and to help them? I happen to think that he is extremely talented and I know he doesn't deserve the feelings your rant is bound to elicit.

Just like you have a right to say what you want, and how you want, so does he have a right to come to skinning, play with visual styles, learn and contribute without being abused. Heck, he is so new to the field of skinning that he hasn't even had a chance to really experience the things you are already tired of.

I admit I didn't read this whole thread. I will go back to do that later. I saw a friend taking abuse and I am stepping in now to say a word. When I calm my anger, I will come read the whole entire thing.

( taking a conversation to the negative to catch someones eye/mind and shifting it back to the positive is rather bothersome, time consuming and also chancing not getting them to flip where you expected if at all. Singling out specific people (or their work)is not the way to get a point across. From what I read you lost it a the begining of the thread by basically calling all other than what you like crap. Yes, I also feel that less is more in many instances, but at the sametime know that explosive works just as well for others. If you like a style sitck with it, but don't be disrespectful of the other styles and or people making them just because it is not your cup of tea so to speak.

At that point... I would think that it is up to *you* to learn the applications, test your artistic talents and either keep what you have come up with or share it with others. But in no way did the purchase of Stardock products buy you themes on demand. (meaning, you bought the product which gives you the ability to do with it as you like as far as creating your own themses and access to this site to download others themes, anything beyond that is cake and cookies ( don't like em, don't eat em ))
