Game balance
Lower populations, and then I have to build 4 farms in order to build one city?
Seriously?
What, exactly, do you guys think the term "game balance" means?
Stardock will be closed for the week starting on Monday, June 29th and we will be returning on Monday, July 6th. We will be monitoring support tickets and forums during this time but expect delays in responses during this time.

Two things:
Higher quality farms produce more. Adjacency bonuses produce more.
Population now = 1 production point. Before, it was the square root.
Before: Population of 9 = 3 production points.
Now: Population of 9 = 9 production points.
I think the problem is that so many of the early game buildings are terribly inefficient on 3 pop worlds, but to build a decent production base on a colony requires an enormous number of tiles dedicated to feeding it. You're looking at something like one 2-city world for every 2 worlds dedicated to farming for a large portion of the game which feels really inconsequential.
