Whats your planet-naming theme?

I'm a big fan of Star Trek so I created a custom race The United Federation of Planets, I know, so original.  But I also name all the planets Federation members; Vulcan, Andoria, Rigel IV, etc.  I also cant resist and I name a planet "Tanagra" :)

It led me to wonder if anyone else has a theme for naming planets?

Homeworld

Industrial 1, Industrial 2, Industrial 3 etc.

Research 1, Research 2, Research 3 etc.

Commerce 1, Commerce 2, Commerce 3 etc.

Culture 1, Culture 2, Culture 3 etc.

Diplomatic 1, Diplomatic 2, Diplomatic 3 etc.

- OR -

Alpha , Beta, Gamma, Delta

Usually like that, I know, boring but it helps keep track.

The names "shrinker", "research", and "wealth" are reserved for three special purpose planets doing military buffs and one per empire buildings.  Otherwise, a planet is a planet.  :)  If you sort by name, the lower case names all bunch together.

I also follow the Star Trek theme (I do after all play with GST) but I use (M) (R) (W) (D) (I) (C) a the Start of the name (C) Earth for example. So i can then list the planets by specialization.

My empire is called the Cajee Dynasty!

Any key industrial centre gets called something such as.. Kitajiwa... Kitagawa

Any Research planet gets 'Cajee' prefix

Any Economic planet gets 'Disse' prefix

and any Culture/Tourism hub gets 'Reje' prefix

very easy to see where all my planets are and what they do!

Ressearch Alpha, Beta, Ceta 50 (numbers designate the bonuses for that perk, if no bonus no number._

Banking Alpha, Beta, Ceta 50

I only have about 4 or o 5 shipyards in an empire of 60 planets and those are carefully built up for production. In cases where I get a special planet like a precursor one, I will label it Research Beta Prime 30

I tend to name my planet's after various sci-fi show's movie's and game's for my Terran Confederation. I tend to use Halo and firefly for inspiration. :andrew:
