Heroes and Henchmen

I think there should be more differentiation between Heroes and Henchmen. I have thought about this and have come up with a few idea.

1. Level ups: Heroes get two picks - one general and one class specific trait; Henchmen get one pick - general or trait specific.

2. Heroes can pick a secondary class after level 5, Henchmen cannot.

3. Every hero has a unique ability not available in the trait tree. This would individualize heroes and make them special. This special ability is tied to there history.

4. Heroes have an additional trait/characteristic that Henchmen do not called Renown. This would accumulate as the level up and complete quests. Their renown would generate fame for the kingdom/empire and possibly have additional benefits.

Kael, this one^

Permitting champions to select two traits upon level up is the perfect solution to many balance/flavor issues that are currently being reported - such as passive stat enhancement traits being unnecessary/boring, champions leveling too slow, and melee champions being too weak, (I'm sure I could find a couple more too).  The concept certainly needs refining, but it has merit.

I like 3, the unique ability.

Two traits per level might be too much, maybe an additional trait every second or third level?

they could bring back permanent death for henchmen. originally, they were supposed to stay dead when they get killed (as opposed to heroes who just take an injury/weakness)

One or the other would be sufficient to balance Henchmen but not both.  Perma death seems to make the most sense lore wise but I am not the one writing the lore.

Yeah agreed i'm all for permadeath on Henchmen if it doesn't cause too much trouble for the AI.

for all i care, AI henchmen could use a different set of rules and not die permanently. AI would probably have trouble keeping them alive. most mechanics are a lot more powerful in the hands of a human player, so i guess it would be ok to just nerf henchies for the human player.
