Monsters Ignoring AI players (again)

Monsters Ignoring AI players (again)

The monsters that are either spawned from special events or from lairs sitting around too long are completely ignoring AI forces. I wanted an AI pioneer walk 5 turns right next to a skeleton group that had spawned from the random and was not touched. Even when it turned into a outpost, the skeletons ignored it, unlike my poor arcane monoliths which are apparently made of skeleton food.

This leads to another problem which I think is an underlying one with the FE as well. The AI is not penalized for playing irresponsibly. The settle right next to deadly groups which then proceed to wander across the AI territory, that is until they find the player territory and then begin to attack and destroy everything in sight.

Prevents attacks on units, not cities.

When was the last time you saw an AI city with no units in it?

Does simply stationing a unit in the city proc the protection of the trait? Would explain why I've taken that trait before and had cities attacked (no garrison). I figured the skill only applied to units on the map and didn't extended to cities, regardless of a garrison.

Just tested it. Had a city with a garrison monsters still attacked it. Unless this works differently for the AI, having units stationed in the city does nothing to deter monster attacks on cities of Civs with Stealth.

I actually had this in my own game.

Had a group of trolls moving in on my city where I had only 2 units of cheap troops. However, when I placed my hero with his army in it, they turned back and walked out of my borders. Few turns later I moved hero and his army out and, whaddaya know, trolls appeared again and went straight for my city.

My guess is that monsters will sometimes target your cities but will turn away if your forces are strong enough. What exactly is strong enough is anyone's guess.

I think the mechanic in general is wonky right now. Besides my prior examples, was playing a Civ with Stealth, monsters attacked my army anyway.

Not sure that city unit strength is factoring in all the time either. A lone Butcherman attacked my capital, Fortress with upgrade, Adventure's Hall, and 3 heroes sitting in it. Auto resolved sense it was Weak (Butcherman) v Strong (City Forces).

This is a bit of a problem.  I was fighting Resoln and their nearest city had a dragon with an army right next to it.  the dragon let Resoln's army move past it just fine but I couldn't come near it or it would attack me and the dragon wouldn't touch Resoln's city, but I am sure that if I could take the city, the dragon would be up my ass in a few moments.

I've been getting a feel for the game playing on the normal difficulty level. Two full games and I have seen the AI both attack and be attacked by monsters as well as complete certain quests/events on the map. Relias (The red guy, I think that's his name.) even wiped out one of the large elemental lords and settled in the area it had been wandering.

It's either the A.I. are attacking and killing each other, or the mobs/units are randomly disappearing for some odd reason. I forgot to check his cities after I took him over to see if I could find the trophy. Anyone know where that would be located in the city menu?

One thing I have never seen, however, is AI beast/ruffians/monsters attacking and sacking cities. Maybe that occurs on higher difficulties only?

Either way. From the sounds of it, it could use some tweaking.

I haven't played LH yet (not enough time unfortunately) but this problem was one of my biggest frustrations with FE. It was particularly galling when the AI would settle in a prime spot that I hadn't been daring to settle because of the dragon (or similar strong creature) right beside it... and worse, the AI would get away with it!

This seemed to gradually improve in FE (the AI sometimes got attacked) though it was still a problem. Frustrating if it still persists or has got worse.
