Have you ever experienced the power of the Cave Bear?

I have two of these suckers (playing Beastlord) and a couple of Large Spiders ROck is one forget the other one. But, these Cave Bears are frickin awesome. They have this skilled called MAUL and they get to continuously strike at an opponent until they MISS (opponent dodges). Oh man I've seen these two things take down giants (ogres and elementals) with this skill. I got these puppies early in the game and have been just wiping the map with them. Of course I know when I run into a serious dodging unit they will be worthless but most of the stuff I've run into isn't seriously dodging. ;)

ANd these spiders omg they have serious HIT POINTS compared to most everything else I've seen. If only I could put ARMOR on them and RIDE them. ;)

How about that Froggy? Spiders as MOUNTS? cmon please please please? ;;) THey have them in RIFT the MMO game.

Spiders as mounts exist, though only therough recruited heroes and quests.

You should consider lucky trait, works great with maul.

I just realized that under the apparent simplicity of this game there are many things I still have to discover. Beastlord? sounds really fun to play! ^_^

Yes it's a choice you have for profession and you can charm some beasts in the game like bears and wolves and spiders and pantherlike creatures. It's better than summons in the early game any ole day specially those cave bears. wow.

yeah I was more hopin for a resource of them like horses and wargs and then you could techup to spider mounts and then be able to ride em and have some of your other units ride them as well. Nothing more kewl looking than an army coming mounted on spiders that can attack also. ;)

I do have the lucky trait.

Now you just need a path of the warrior hero with +30 acc for the army and it could be enough "cheating" to beat insane.

lol see I never even thought of it like that. I just picked because I liked the definition of those picks. ;)

Yes beastlord is a bit OP, it gets you all kinds of powerful spiders, bears, river lizards with a nasty byte...

There are also heroes who can summon a cave bear "Uteran" or somthing like that. It's even better because if it dies in battle you can still summon it the next time.

Now if only those cave bears could maul with laser eyes... ;)

A combination of beastmaster, weathy and adventurer (feee hereos) IMO are the best traits for a custom sovereign.

You can't have beastmaster and adventurer - they are both professions.  But you can choose adventurer, tech up for better heroes and hire beastmaster heroes for free.  You have to be lucky with where heroes are placed on the map though.

Thanks, I stand corrected.  It's been a while since I made my own sovereign.

But I still think those are the three best choices, even if you can't choose them at the same time.

wait until you get a 10 level great wolf with the howl ability.howl gives +1 attack per caster level to every friendly unit one the battlefield.so a 10 level great wolf gives 50 attack to a 5 man squad by using that ability.now thats something

Yeah that sounds kewl haven't got that far with a BeastLord yet but this is fun. I might have to agree it's a bit Over Powered but the fun blinds one of that don'tcha know? ;)

Qeustion if anyone knows does poison spitting spiders stack with one another? If it does you could literally web your powerful enemy and then just watch its life drain away turn after turn with several poison spitting spiders.

I'm not sure if they do, but web only lasts 3 turns, that would be kinda short for a "powerful" enemy.

No you just have to scout agressively, it kind of snowballs as you get more heroes

Just read the 1.3 changelog:

"Champion Recruitment cost gets gradually more expensive based on the # of champions the player has"

One more reason to choice "adventurer"....
