"Scorched Earth" City Razing

By the halfway point of the game I had too many cities through conquest to be concerned about. It grew boring building the same upgrades but I didn't want to raze them because the enemy would sneak a pioneer and become the mosquitoes of the game. What about an option added when razing a city to destroy the ability to building resources on the land that was under it's control? I feel this would make the endgame clip along.

The earth is scorched already when a city is razed.  The area the city was on is no longer available for city placement. But I assume you want to scorch the entire area the city's zone of control covered?  I see the strategic value of it, but it seems contradictory to the point of the game, to save civilization from annihilation and to bring life back to the scorched world.  Maybe more appropriate for a mod. Just my 2 cents.

i have to agree. i've never won a game by conquest yet, i just quit when my victory is inevitable. conquering and trying to defend all those cities is just boring, especially given the way that the AI spams units everywhere.

At least some way of turning over control of the city to an AI governor would help relieve issues. As would some kind of fortifications that can be built by non-fortresses, so i don't have to repeatedly rush new units before i can move on

if i ever do win a game by comquest, it'll be through stockpiling mana, and spamming curgen's volcano. it's just so much less effort than doing things manually.

as to razing, the 5 turn waiting time is annoying and doesn't make sense, i feel. I'd much rather see you able to START razing a city right away, and have the city be gradually destroyed, building by building, over a period of turns proportional to the level of the city and number of structures in it.

My 2 cents:

- What about an "autobuild" button? Press it, and forget that city...

- Raze. Totally agree. 5 turns is a total nonsense. But, if it was attached to the level of the city (1 turn by level), well, a level 5 city taking 5 turns to raze can be...reasonable, as only level 5 citites would take so long. Yes, I find that a bit better.

Couldn't disagree more, City razing shouldn't be easy to do.  A city is filled with hundreds of people and buildings, it shouldn't disappear like a fart in the wind as soon as it's conquered.  I like the 5 turn limit.  Now, that being said, maybe we can have a game option with a slider for city razing, defaults on 5 turns, but you can change it to 1, 3, 10, or never?  I like options.
