Bug with multiple capships in a command group

I've mentioned this one before, but it still seems to be lurking in the game: If you make a command group that consists of multiple capships (for instance, by clicking them all and pressing ctrl + 1), and then later you decide to add some more ships to the fleet (in the same way you added the capships) the capships will go out of order. If you use tab to switch between the ships (as I do) you will often get a cap at the end of the fleet (which means you have to either tab through the entire fleet, or hope you click on the cap).

Does anyone else have this problem? It's usually more noticeable with fleets of 3 or more capships (although it can happen with 2), and with capships of different types and levels.

I got yelled at for calling this a bug and I guess its not really a bug but it is very annoying and I consider it a slight lazyness on the part of the programmers. For the record I have played alot of rts's and none of them functioned this way. Please improve the system after bugs and balance are taken care of.

Agreed with Nate.

I'm quite sure this is a bug, because it's not been on the previous versions of SINS that I know of (vanilla, entrench, diplom). As far as I understand, having capships rearrange themselves spontaneously even when you DON'T add any new ships to a command group (but still press ctrl + 1 to make a new command group) should technically be classified as a bug as it's an unintended operation.

I find this annoying as well, at the very least. Especially since capital ships still always appear before the rest of the fleet in  the Empire tree - though no longer ordered by level. And tabbing through is a mess, as stated. I don't think it could possibly matter less whether or not you can call it a bug. I just hope it's fixed at some point. I find myself putting my capital ships into their own control group just for the convenience.

this same shit happens in entrenchment and still here in rebellion.  It's a bug that became a feature by negligence.  Capitalships should always occupy the first spaces and not end up stuffed wherever in the shuffle.  Empire Tree has always been a clusterfuck and fleet management for crap.

Well it depends on who is first in the select group and who is the actual fleet commander. The issue comes into place when you select a ship that is NOT FLEET ACTUAL, IE. the ship with the command logo above them. The problem is when you hit 1, you select someone else, and when you hit create fleet to add ship into it, you designate them a NEW fleet.

Make sure you click the fleet commander and set him as Select Group commander, just him, the beauty of this is that when you hit 1 it is the same as if clicked on him, so as fleet members come into his fleet, your control group automatically updates and you dont have to constantly be remaking it. IE. Select ALL and Ctrl+1 over and over.

Sometimes you have to refresh your selection group because there have been additions to the fleet then the selection group at the time you created it. So you Click the Fleet command symbol which auto selects everyone in the fleet, from your point of view it will look like you auto selected more people in addition to the ones you have already have selected. then recreate your selection group

hit 1, then click Command Symbol, then Ctrl+1, and you update your selection groups to your fleet command.

The issue comes up when you don't even use the fleet function. I use control groups, without bothering creating a fleet, and the capital ships get jumbled up the same. Yet this did not happen, prior to rebellion
