The 1st run crash issue has been a known problem for a while. I has to do with the way Diplomacy loads the mod. For some reason if you enable the mod then play it right afterwards Diplomacy does not load all of the mod files. Hence the crash after you start a game. However if you close, and then restart Diplomacy with the mod enabled then you can run the mod the entire game with no problems at all. We don't know why it does that. Dev.exe, and debug logs don't give us a clue as to why.

Now for the sad news.

As of Today i am officially retiring from SoA 2.

The Free Time, and The Motivation to work on this is just not there for me any more. For me this mod has become more of a "Chore" than the Hobby it once was. Don't get me wrong. I enjoyed working on SoA 2 when i had the free time to do it. I also enjoyed working with all who helped us out. However, the reality is that i am 48 years old. (FORTY EIGHT for those who cant read numbers). I am getting way WAY too old for this crap. I cant stay up all night meshing, texturing, crunching numbers, fixing bugs, etc. etc. Plus work 12 to 15 hours a day at my RL Job! When i get a day off from work the last thing i want to do is "more work". So... I'm Done. At least with SoA 2. Not with Sins. I'll still hang around, and give the team advise if they ask. No need to give them my work, because they already have everything i have done. I wanted to make one more foundation for Rebellion, but the time, and more important. The motivation is just not there. It wouldn't be fair to the rest of you guys to say i am going to do something, and then absolutely nothing happens. Which is what is happening. I am going to work on a new build of TSOP (it doesn't involve much modeling) then i am done for good. Time for this "Geezer Gamer" to let the younger generation take over ;)

AFAIK Psychoak, and MyFist0 are the defacto project leads now. Best of luck to you guys.

I've actually known very well about the startup bug. I can't remember now if i did my usual check with that, but i've been too busy playing Rebellion to do another check, haha.

I'll let you know if my cry was a false alarm.

Why would you say something like that?  Major Stress appointed you as one of the project leads, so unless you and psychoak are going to add non-canon crap there won't be any.

Oh FFS's people. I may have retired, but i aint DEAD. Least not yet, and i still can read, and i still lurk here. If the team has any problems i am just a PM away... I was thinking of adding "SoA 2 Worf" in the mod with just his space suit, and a phaser rifle. Can blast a jemmy devastator with one hit, but dont set him on aggressive or he will attack YOUR ships too.. "Assimilate THIS!" :p

We've sort of been without any direction for a while now.  The biggest change here is that I no longer officially have someone else to blame if people don't like something.

 

The mod isn't going to be dead any time soon.  Not going to be done any time soon either, but we can't have everything in life.

Even if i did stick around, Absolutely Nothing would get accomplished. I have no free time to mod total conversions like SoA 2 any more. Nor the motivation. That "little" thing called Real Life MUST take priority. Sorry to disappoint, but it is what it is. I left SoA 2 in very capable hands. The mod is not gonna shut down.

As i said before. Just because i retired from modding doesn't mean the SoA 2 team can't PM me, and ask my opinions on stuff, or to help guide them thru some of the difficult parts of modeling. I still play sins (free time permitting), and i still read the boards. Who knows maybe ill get some free time later, and my muse will come back. Just not today.

I plan on making one last build of TSOP before i retire for good. Just waiting on the Rebellion 1.03 update. I think the patches will slow down in frequency after 1.03. So we will not worry about new patches breaking stuff we make for Rebellion. I can work on something like TSOP, because there really isn't very much modeling involved. Mostly brush/mesh/entity, and bug hunting with word pad, and some minor texture work. THAT i have some free time to do. Major meshing, texturing, and overhauls are out of the question.

Yes SoA 2 needs modelers. We always have needed modelers.

LOL! MyFist0 Non-canon crap will only be in the mod if YOU ALLOW IT.

Still working on finishing the Dip version b4 we port that to Rebellion. And by 'we' I mean psy, as he is on his own for that.

If you had to choose, which version of the mod is the best (or most complete) e.g original sins, diplomacy, entrenchment?

Diplomacy by far. As the team moves ahead to the new expansions, typically work is stopped on the old.

It has been offered to anyone, if you wish to backport Diplomacy to Ent or Van you are welcome to and we will host the link and give credit for it. This is not an easy task though, even experienced modders will spend many hours doing this.

I like every version of Sins.  Vanilla and all.  But once I played SOA 2 it was like nothing I ever experienced before.  The Borg do not take "NO" for an answer.  When you play a multi-star map  and it goes to late game you know how Ryker from the other reality felt:
