Hey guys, man i love this mod.I would like to say that I play this modd on 2 comps.1 with an i7 920 @3.3 with gtx 580 on a 1920x1200 monitor with a vertex 2 ssd.I never encountered a stutter. Now after 2 yrs my ssd died.So in the mean time implaying on an old hp board with a e6700 2.6 stock, gtx 275 on another vertex 2 ssd drive on a 1920x1200 monitor.Only minor stutters on large battles with all the settings to max.So you think playing on a ssd would fix stutter problems?

P.S. I did notice playing the klingon Negvhar capital ships have a fast movement. To fast for a a flagship i think.Thx guys.

You are correct. Sup Com has the same problem.
End of Major's quote

But the thing about SupCom is, it was designed to support multicore, unlike Sins.

Yet still chugs like crazy late game. :)

It chugs like crazy in general for me, simply because I don't have a powerful enough computer to do it justice.

Meh, mine post-dates it by four years, and I can still chug with my quad core 2500k.

OUTSTANDING mod SoA team! You guys have done the sins and trek communities a great service with this one.

My brother and I are both avid DS9 fans and we ran across this mod a while back in the entrenchment days. Together we played a round and were nerdtastically delighted to find the game turn out exactly as the series. He started at Bajor, I started at Earth, and our coalition slowly pushed back the Cardassians until a massive Dominion fleet came through the wormhole. I can't express in words how cool it felt to play that scenario in an extremely well-made game/mod. Mega props!

I've just downloaded your Diplomacy version and I'm very eager to try it out. I have two questions: first, I don't see your custom map in the mod that has all the major empire homeworlds laid out properly. Where can I find this map or is there a Diplomacy compatible version? Second: is it possible to implement a Cardassian-style capturable starbase at the wormhole? I usually play the Distant Stars mod which has lots of capturable ships and stations in it so I know the mechanic exists. I do not know if a DS9/Cardassian SB model exists or if it has been implemented in this mod because I haven't had a chance to play the Dominion yet.

Thanks again for this amazing mod.

The capture mechanic itself in sins leaves a lot to be desired. We are still fighting for control of Borg assimilation. AFAIK You cant flag just one ship or structure as captureable. Its an all or nothing deal. All frigates, all cap ships all structures. Psy would know more about this than i would.

Play Forged Alliance if you want to experience some "chug". First SP mission is a stall fest from the get go.

A lot of the low res stuff came from the original SoA mod. Almost the entire Dominion lineup is from the original SoA mod. The poly counts of the original SoA ships fit perfect into Sins. However the textures are 256x256 total res. We planned on correcting this when we had the spare time, and that time is coming. That is why i am trying to get good 5 views of ships, and working with the Excalibur team.

Sure you can, it's just hell on the design is all. :)

Capturing neutral entities comes down to cheese.  Free units and structures for he who gets to them first.  It's easy enough to do, but it lacks practical use in a fair manner.  Any structure or ship would need to burn an ability slot for the capture version, or capturing would be well based, and be static in nature to the planet.  I can get around the limitations, but it means setting up what would be abnormal map additions.  It's also a lot of work to get it complex enough that I could live with implementing it.  Something perhaps to do when the mod is "done" but not a task to undertake lightly.

In other words the "pain in the ass factor" is to high for it to be worth it.

Please don't mistake me for a "Can u plz ad *inset my wizhlist* intoo ur mod???" poster. I cringe when I see those guys.  My intention was not to ask for more to be added to the mod but to ask if Cardassian SB model already exists and if the Star Trek universe map that used to be included in the mod is still included in this version. I have since found that the map is not included. Can I download that particular map from somewhere or is it not compatible with Diplomacy?

Yes

and

I am making the maps compatible now. Will upload soon.

o_O Wow! ok well in that case they should make it into the next update when they are ready. My team needs to let me catch up on current events lol!

I posted this a couple pages ago and never got a response so I'm not sure if it got missed or what. So I'm going to post it again now. :)

I also should add that there were others but I can't remember them offhand.

Is there a page or readme file that explains how the abilities work? Most are explained in game but others aren't. For example, I haven't figured out yet what the Klingon starbase ability "Overload" does exactly. It seems to increase weapon damage but the damage numbers on the UI don't change so I have no idea whats actually happening. :)

Thanks!

   buffEntityModifierType "DamageAsDamageDealer"
    value
        Level:0 1.000000
        Level:1 1.500000
        Level:2 2.000000

The damage display is wonky.  It shows firing rate changes in the damage per second, but this particular modifier is ignored.

End of quote

Also a couple pages back.

Ah sorry. I saw that post but I thought it was refering to someone elses question.

So, is the display damage also wrong for torperdo damage? When I asked about torp dmg a few pages ago I was told that they fire slowly but do a lot of damage, BUT on the display it'll say something like, Phaser: 200 dmg,  Torpedo: 16 dmg. ;)

Edit: BTW what file is that info you just posted in? Then the next time I'm confused I can just look it up myself. :)

Thanks

That particular file would be from BuffOverloadWeapons, which didn't actually answer your question, as I looked up the wrong ability. :)

AbilitySBDisrupterOverload is what I should have looked up, and it does 200 damage on weapon hit.  Follow the links, Abilities are referenced in the entity files for the objects that have them.  You can figure out everything in the game this way.

Not sure if this is intended or not but figured i would check.  Just got the new version and started a game with all 5 factions.  All but the Borg on Cruel, Borg on one level below.  Issue is, just minutes into the game...17 minutes to be exact, I have rebels showing up at my 2 systems.  But the fleets are 25+ ships!  Tried to restart the game with the same result.  Any reason why so..many..more rebels are showing up?  (Teams were unlocked and Pirates were off).

Because you put the AI on cruel and it maxed out it's research already. :)

You should see it on vicious aggressive }:)

So its simply the AI "buying" rebels to send at me/us?  Ok.  I can deal with that.  As usual, the continued work on the mod is stunning and very appreciated!

As for Vicious/Aggressor....working toward it.  Me and a bud normally team up as Federation/Romulans VS a team of Klingon/Dominion and a team of Borg.  But haven't quite gotten to vicious yet.

It's a high level research, it typically takes the AI an hour or better to get to it on hard, but vicious and cruel cheat a lot more.

they cheat ?

i knew it ^^ that bastards

sometimes when the ai is spamming wave over wave you think "how the fuck do they get so fast so many ships"

btw fucking love this mod

me and my best friend playing it all the time when we playing online ore on Lans

sometimes i get him for a single round of the star wars mod ;) but normaly its only star trek

Cruel, and Vicious AI was added to Diplomacy, because people were complaining that the Entrenchment AI was kind of.. to put it politely..."lacking".

Yes, The AI CHEATS. That is the only way the AI can put up any kind of a challenge. I can live with a cheating AI, but sometimes it does things way earlier than it should.. Like research insurgency, and start building novaliths within a half hour into the game. Other than that Vicious AI can put up quite a fight.
