Demigod Beta 3: February 19

Demigod Beta 3: February 19

image

On February 19th, Beta 3 of Demigod will be released. A week after that, the window will close for new people to join the beta.

The purpose of Beta 3 of Demigod is to nail down balance and begin trying out the Pantheon – the persistent multiplayer universe.

Initially (as in the shipping game) the Pantheon will include the Forces of Light vs. Forces of Darkness tournament.  As time goes on (and depending on how well the game does obviously) we’ll talk to the multiplayer community to see what kinds of other persistent online games they’ll want.

The goal here is to create something that people can keep playing online for years to come.

Beta 3 will deal with the various balance issues that this introduces and will give players a real opportunity to start really ripping apart exploits and things we haven’t thought of.

It will also be the final phase for us to make the multiplayer matchmaking not suck (In Beta 2D, it’s “better” but it’s a far cry from anything that could be shipped).

So stay tuned. We’ll have more to come soon.

No you can't. I think they won't do public beta till the really last build just like how they did for SIN.

Via Impulse.  Have you pre-ordered?

So you have to pre-order the game to be eligible for the beta?

Man, i am gonna pre-order it now if thats the case. :P

If you pre-order you can play the beta.  Just understand that you are buying the game now.  You pay for it now.  Not in April when the game is released.

Pffft change the title of this thread. Whats the point of re-assuring us that the beta will be out on Feb 19th if you have no idea whether or not it will. We've been re-assured many times that beta 3 will fix the game and that everything is far from what it should be like - but realize you have hardly any time left to fix this game up - and I havent even started on the connectivity of the game atm. If you give us a deadline for beta 3 three times, and fail each time to deliver it, it kinda puts doubt into my mind.

Its quite harsh to get us hyped up like that for beta and re-assure us so many times it will be out today. I bet some people didnt sleep/waited for hours to play this beta but you guys really showed them :\

Is it not equally or more harsh to put them down like that? I don't mean offense, but unless you're willing to fly out to GPG and help them out so that they can get it out faster, I wouldn't talk.

Communication doesn't cost a thing but is worth so much.

I wish these developers would recognize this.

I dont think its equally or more harsh to put them down like that as if they keep on missing their deadlines and cannot get out important patches like this, then the game will not be popular within the competitive scene and Stardock will start to build up a bad name (Look at EA for example) - which is the last thing I want. They should however be aware that giving mutiple deadlines and missing them continioulsy will not help their repuation.

And about, "but unless you're willing to fly out to GPG and help them out so that they can get it out faster, I wouldn't talk." why would me flying over to help them make a difference? Wasn't sending that little check from where I am now enough. Its their Job, not mine - and thats why im paying them :)

It's a beta, not a patch. Big difference.

Unless a one-day beta delay is going to affect the actual release date (it isn't), there's really not much to complain about. Stuff happens in development; if you want to be involved in a beta, then you get to deal with the issues that arise just like we do.

As has been said before, it's a [real] beta, not a demo; life gets rough on the bleeding edge. :p

kryo, I appreciate the overzealous nature of your use of the word 'beta', but that is no excuse for the lack of a forum post or something by you all.  And why don't you have stickies and the like with this important information?

Reminding me that this is a 'beta' is the same as some dude saying 'well I paid for it'.  It's not a good excuse from either and avoids the subject entirely.  You can't tell us WTF is going on until after the fact, and I can tell you that you won't get ANY bug reports from me that's for damn sure, it's a two-way street.

Anyway, not a big deal to me really, just common courtesy.  I know what it was like when I was a bit more worried about video game release dates, and it wasn't fun.  You can relate I am sure, or you aren't in the right business.

Thats even worst to miss deadlines THREE times on a big change like beta 3. If it was a small update then I would not be as bothered (the concept of missing deadlines like this would though..). If we had more than 1 month and a half left till this game goes on sale I would be fine - but we seriously dont. This game has too many issues atm for you guys to be delaying beta 3 even more.

I am not bothered about the release date being affected. In fact I would rather it would be pushed back so we have more time to polish the game before release. What I am worried about is that this WILL effect how good the game will be is on its release date and the reputatoin of you guys.

I am absoultely fine with buggy beta's, buggy gameplay, poor connectivity etc. I understand that this is a real beta which is why I do not care about any of these bugs etc. However being in the beta phase is not really an excuse for missing deadlines so many times like this (specially when we are so close to release). If you guys are ready to give us a deadline then you should be sure that those are the REAL deadlines - not ones to decieve us/comfort us. If you are not sure of the deadline for beta 3 because last minute bugs may pop up etc., then thats perfectly fine, but I just think its wrong to make a journal post with "Demigod Beta 3: Febuary 19th" and stating that it WILL be released on this day if it simply wont.

I am just saying this because I dont want Stardock/GPG getting a bad reputation like EA did for missing deadlines so often. Many of us would have preferred a title such as "Demigod Beta 3: Febuary 19th - 26th" or something like that - as it would;
1. Not make you guys look bad if you missed your set target of releasing it on the 19th

2. Wouldnt make customers stay up waiting for the patch AND dissapoint them.

Technically the counter on the front page says 52days and 22hours, which would be more than a month and a half.  Granted, your point still holds true, we have a lot left to tweak to get this release ready!!!

It's a beta... Bugs ARE going to pop up. They shouldn't need to tell us "we want to release it by this date but bugs may pop up" every time they want to update it. It is a Beta so you should expect thisngs to not run as smoothly as they would once everything is finished. True for in-game, true for development.

Still dont get why we are out told it will come out on the 19th Febuary if they are so uncertain whether or not it will. We havent even been given a reason tbh. Most of the time the excuse is, "GPG havent sent it to us" which suggests there is communication problems...which isnt really related to bugs in a Beta. Last minute bugs are more understandable I guess, however before giving a release date they should really double check for them.

We weren't uncertain. Everything was on track but some issues arose unexpectedly yesterday that made it impossible despite everyone involved working to make it happen until the end of the day (and beyond). Like others have commented, stuff happens.
