Demigod Beta 3: February 19

image

On February 19th, Beta 3 of Demigod will be released. A week after that, the window will close for new people to join the beta.

The purpose of Beta 3 of Demigod is to nail down balance and begin trying out the Pantheon – the persistent multiplayer universe.

Initially (as in the shipping game) the Pantheon will include the Forces of Light vs. Forces of Darkness tournament.  As time goes on (and depending on how well the game does obviously) we’ll talk to the multiplayer community to see what kinds of other persistent online games they’ll want.

The goal here is to create something that people can keep playing online for years to come.

Beta 3 will deal with the various balance issues that this introduces and will give players a real opportunity to start really ripping apart exploits and things we haven’t thought of.

It will also be the final phase for us to make the multiplayer matchmaking not suck (In Beta 2D, it’s “better” but it’s a far cry from anything that could be shipped).

So stay tuned. We’ll have more to come soon.

Good News :)

However leaving beta 3 this late is really risky. There is so much gameplay balance and changes that are needed its crazy. Lets hope there will be lots and lots of hardwork through out beta 3 so we get a good final product.

I believe we have about 1 month of testing left? Not sure - a correcion on this from Frogboy or a Dev would be great :D

awesome time.

still multiplayer only?

Will beta3 be playable until Release date or it will end earlier?

Will it be possible to play a multiplayer map as a single player skirmish?

I'm doing that now in DOW2 and am finding it really helpful in learning how to play.

Well, in beta 2, you can host a multiplayer game and just fill all the slots with AI's, so beta 3 might work that way as well.

They don't end them early ;)

Also, sounds great :)

Yay. Now I have a deadline on my Gal Civ 2 project. I gotta get that done before Beta 3 or else I'll never finish my Mini-Expansion.

We will probably not  have LAN as they still need to test out the Internet and Pantheon connections.

Its easy to unlock though if you really want to.

Huzzah. New content and a chance to test balance. Thanks for the update.

On the minus side, I have StreetFighter 4 and Dawn of War 2 to play over the next few weeks as well.

Great news, thanks Frogboy

This has been brought up before but no answer was given, afaik - Are the light and dark sides going to be DG specific?  As in, Regulus can only play on for the Forces of Light and Beast can only play for the Forces of Darkness?

OK, thanks Sevenix.  If that's confirmed I think it will be an issue, but I guess that's why we are having a Beta to test it |-)

I am completely open on the Pantheon - no preconceptions, no expectations, just raw curiousity.

At this point I think I am in an "add more, polish up, everything is fine just fine" stage. From what I`ve seen Demigod is going to turn out very well. As always, looking forward to new code.

So umm:

Forces of Light: Regulus, Rook, Sedna, Oak
Forces of Darkness: Beast, Vampire Lord, Queen of Thorns, TorchBearer

Or so I guess...

It isn't quite clear but it seems that there are no plans for automated matchmaking based on a player's skill. Is this correct?

I would be greatly surprised and disappointed if it didn't eventually have a standard skill/rating-based automatch feature.

[Edit] Check out the Pantheon section of this site.  Since there are rankings for skirmish, it makes sense that there would be an automatch feature for it...

I saw the Pantheon site but there isn't any mention of a player's skill rating. Matching up players or ranking them simply based on a win/loss ratio is not mathematically sound. Especially since games versus the computer are being included...

Hopefully something interesting will be done with favor.

i dunno if it will be in beta 3, but the final game will include an advanced match-making system (if you search a bit on the site you should find a dev post explaining their match making system)
