What do you name your ships?

What do you name your ships?

I'm rather fond of renaming my ships, though the default names are quite cool. What names do you use for your ships, and is it faction-dependant?

Names I like to use for the TEC are:

Collosus

Prometheus

Excalibur

Victory

Thermopylae (you gotta love those Spartans)

Resolute

Brotherhood

Alliance

Guardian

Heracles

And for the Vasari:

Slavebane

Impudence

Intrusion

Cleansweep

Incarcerator

Darklight

Shadow

Exodus (for the Evacuator)

Inferno

And for the Advent:

Vengeance

Epiphany

Revelation

Vigilante

Damnation

Enlightenment

Dreamcatcher

Apocalyptica

On a side note, what does the "TDN" stand for in front of the names of the Trader Emergency Coalition ships? If I may hazard a guess, Trader Defense Navy?

For TEC I name my ships as follows :

KMS Bismark

KMS Deutschland

KMS Wilhelm

KMS Tripitz

KMS Köln

KMS Preußen

KMS Kaiser

As you can tell these are mainly based on either World War II German ships or World War 1 ships.
KMS stands for Kiregsmarine Ship

My main capital ship is always called "The Defiant", regardless of race.

As for other names?

Advent: Arkwright, Flux, Eclipse, Fenrir, Thunder, Lightning, Shine, Aura and Luna. Bonus points to anyone who gets the references.

I rarely play other races, but when I do, I play TEC, and I always use "SA Normandy"

O_o Fenrir? Ace Combat X

Luna, Aura, Lightning, Thunder - DotA?

As for me:

Radiance: Shurika/Rhiona/Aeterna/Irina

Haylcon: Victoria/Vittoria

Mothership: Venga/Elena

maybe i should use some Ace Combat series names Gleiphnir/Fenrir/Mobius 1/...

I only tend to use 3 cap ship names:

Mecha Shiva

Half Jackal

Full Jackal

A cookie is in it for the first to guess what these are from.

All mine are Norse gods.

Battleships: Odin, Tyr, Hermodr

Carriers: Baldr, Forseti, Njord

Colonizers: Freyja, Frigg, Yngvi-Freyr

Support: Loki, Heimdall, Bragi

Siege: Thor, Vidarr, Vali

I use the Norse mythology theme for planet and starbase names, too.  You can check them out on the Planet Names thread, if you want. https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/336437/page/2/#2240562

huh, I thought I posted here, but it didn't show.

Anyways, I usually name mine (note that I rarely/barely play Advent, occasionally Vasari) the following

lead cap- Dread Magnus

lead carrier- Dread Magach

lead colonizer- Dread Archon

2nd carrier- Dread Merkava

any ship named Magnius- Great Magnius

any ship named Ultimus- Dread Ultimus

lead siege- Dread Razer

can't think of any more right now; but here are some of my SB names-

Vas Stratonev

Vas Galvoci (that's GAL-VO-CHI)

Kosmus Valco

Markus Valco

Vas Altimus

Vas Altair

Vas Hercules

Also, SenkKS, those names are almost certainly based on Halo.

Greek gods like Poseidon and Heracles are some good ones that i use, along with big sounding names like Leviathan. Mostly i just leave them alone, and only rename them if there are 2 of them with the same name.

Am I the only one who names his ships after the Lancer universe's Rheinland Military?

The actual names change, but they're always along the lines of RMS Wolfsburg, RMS Salzgitter, RMS Eisenach, RMS Freiburg, etc. Planets are mostly named after bigger cities that are in each other's vicinity: Essen, Düsseldorf, Köln, Dortmund, Bonn, etc.

You can also change the nationality once in a while to improve your geography. That's an easy way to remember things. :)

I don't name my own ships.

But I do name the ships of my enemies.
It goes something like this:

- Scumbag
- Deadmeat
- mofo
- piece-a-junk
- crapburger
...

I seem to have a fondness for naming my ship after forum users. I recently played a game as Vasari and had the following names:

Jarrasul Evacuator: Samurye, Fist of Iron, ShadowMastiff

Skirantra Carrier: Tsurani, The Undying, Kodao, UE_Carbon

Kortul Devestator: Doombringer, Sibertronic, Kryo

Vulkoras Desolator: Mr Blunted, Orodum, Frogboy

Antorak Marauder: Blackbird, The_Monk, Annatar

I also use the name Grey Dawn alot, although I also use Red Dawn.

It's a shame, you can't name a scout, cause that'd be a good one to name Annatar, that way he can LMAO all over the universe, while stabbing other ships with his pitchforks and lighting them on fire with his torches.....LMAO!!!!

I have only played as TEC, anyhow here is my list:

Kol Battleship: CIN Leviathan, CIN Atlas, CIN Goliath, CIN Ymir (Something big)

Marza Dreadnaught: CIN Warhammer, CIN Excalibur, CIN Claymore (Some kind of weapon)

Carrier: CIN Galactica, CIN Enterprise, CIN Apollo, CIN Pegasus (a fictional or RL carrier)

Colony: CIN Colonial, CIN Horizon, CIN Mayflower (Something that has something to with colonization or new worlds)

Support: CIN Cleric, CIN Paramedic (Something that has something to do with healing or rescue-operations)

CIN stands for Calsonian Imperial Navy |-)

Well, the Marauder is a support ship, and Annatar seems to do a lot of support. A lot of the other ones I just chose randomly, but Annatar's was well thought out. :D

It really depends on the ship I'm making.

For TEC, it's usually the following:

Sova Carrier- Titania, Lyreneia, Diligent

Kol Battleship- Lyreneia, Glorious

Akkan Battlecruiser- Lorlei

Dunov Battlecruiser- Nerd Vessel, Nerd Vessel 2, ect

Marza Dreadnought- Pwninator, Pwninator 2, ect

Advent:

Progeniter Mothership- Popeinator

Radiance Battleship- Ave Maria

Halcyon Carrier- Augustine

Revelation Battlecruiser- Vatican

Rapture Battlecruiser- Victoria

Vasari:

Jarrasul Evacuator- Death Egg, TEH EGG!!!

Never bothered with Vasari for more than twelve minutes, though. XD

  That's awesome!  I need to use that some time.

i have never bothered to name my cap ships, most because i'm too busy building up a huge fleet. but after reading this, i think i may have to start naming them. oh and really cool names that you guy(and gals) have have come up with.

I am like jcjames in that I have never bothered to name my caps ships. Normally I am like "You, yes you in charge of this fleet under this hotkey #, lead my ships to VICTORY!, whatever your name is." Although, I think I might try to name some of my ships, after they have proven themselves (aka won victories and gained levels.)

SorrowSworn! For all of them ;)

I've never named mine, but a few names I've considered using are (regardless of faction):

Reaper

Sol

Consecration

Sininator

FTW (among others, as you can imagine)

Similar to the previous idea, using the default names, but in 1337

And of course, I have had urges to name them as Gruzuis would.  Don't judge me, you've all thought about it.

While I haven't heard of "Arkwright" before, I do believe everything else fits into the Fire Emblem series, so I'm going to have to go with that.

Law, Order, and of corse Chuck Norris.  If I have any more then 3 cap ships i get kinda silly with the naming.  Such as BlackNight, The Ottoman, and the Indomnible.

I prefer to name my ships for the occasion that they were built for.

Say a  Dreadnought will be named 'Vengeance' if it was built in retaliation for a planetburn. A capital ship that was built for helping hold the line or defending my territory could be named 'Aegis' or 'Sentinel'. One for sieges would be named after a siege weapon, like 'Tebuchet', 'Ballista' or 'Catapult', it also depends on the class of the vessel in question. One for 'Deep Strikes' or Blockade Running would probably be named after a sword.

Not sure if its included, but I name my BSs after synonyms of the word 'Fortress'

@TheSpydyr

Did you mean you'd name a scout after me? I get Annatar = support, though I'm guessing with the pitchfork reference you may have been referring to someone else? ;)
