Yes, that may also be an issue.  To ensure your (SATA) primary OS drive is not in focus confict with the (IDE) secondary OS drive, you may have to change jumper settings on the drives themselves... make the SATA the master and the IDE a slave. To do this you will need to open up your tower/box and refer the the manufacturer instructions.  Most drive these days have that info on the top, if not you can find it at their website.

This is already the case. Went through that when I bought the rig.

Note to those whe want the QuickLaunch toolbar back: You can still do it . Windows 7 does allow you to create new toolbars!

What this basically means is that if you really wanted to, you can indeed make it act just like previous versions of Windows. You'll have to create a new toolbar, unlock the task bar, move it, change the settings to not show the text/title if you desire, lock the taskbar again, and if you so desire unpin the existing items and tell it to use small icons.

It's a bit of a pain, but it's possible .

I'm really excited about windows 7 now for some reason.  Everything I hear about it is positive.   Surely it keeps the good aspects of vista (I'm a network tech support agent, and vista is so much easier to troubleshoot than XP)

The things I'm hearing of Windows 7 leaves me.. baffled. Maybe it's just some big bubble of happy people running around with rosecolored glasses in here, but from what I'm hearing, this may be the first Windows I'll install within the first year of it's release.

As I've come to understand it, it's just in beta at the moment (so Micro$oft still have time to screw up), but when is Windows 7 set for release?

Given that the beta is due to expire on August 1st, it's likely to be released around then.

.... Don't run BETA software (specially not an OS) if you're not ready to lose every bit of information on *any* connected harddrive...

Actually you should act as if you could lose everything at all times, even when running release software. But the risk of that happening is rather much smaller.

It does, because it's based on Vista. The rumors that Microsoft was going back to XP's code turned out to be completely false.

So far everybody is guessing 2009, but Microsoft officially has their lips sealed.

For those of u that haven't tried out the 64bit version you should.. It is nice and runs quite fine.. I am using that right now and so far no problems expect for Window blinds and Dreamm, it seems like in this beta version Dreams can't tell if the Desktop Windows manager is on or not. FOr window blinds I have tired a few that came with the program and it turned off AREO and I was left with basic. So I think Stardock needs to work on that before Windows 7 is offically out to the public. So far I do like it and how the icons are bigger and how you can just close the windows by going back and forth on the desktop to close the windows.

Actually you can installing Windows 7 as a dual boot.. infact Windows 7 well do that for you automatically upon installing it on your spear HD. SO there is no need to fiddle with anything just tell Windows 7 on the first screen on where it asks you where to install Windows 7 and then it well generate the Windows boot menu after it installs it on that hardrive. Folks I strongly urge anyone to NOT upgrade from Vista to 7 remember this is beta and if you do upgrade from Vista to 7 remember this.. It expires on August 1st and if you didn't think about backing everything up your screwed and have to reinstall everything from the ground up! EIther use VMware or some other vr program or do a dual boot.

The label "BETA" is a sure sign for trouble.

 

I still feel that XP would be an UPGRADE...lol. Even if I am running Vista& 7 PC, Vista Laptop.

Amen. That's the way I've learned much of what I know . That's also why I don't follow the opinion of the crowd when it comes to Vista.

I now have Windows 7 installed for dual booting.

Had to go to low resolution mode because it didn't set up my monitor right the first time, but installing the latest drivers and setting the resolution manually fixed it .

Looks very nice so far, no complaints . There is noticably a lot less of UAC, but it's still there. There is more fine gained control over it, so no more need toturn it off completely.

It's also quite fast so far - but then again, I haven't installed all of the stuff I usually do. Only time will tell if it stays that way.

I would like to emphasize: Do not replace your primary OS. Windows 7 is a time limited trial and will need to be removed or replaced when the trial is up. It's also beta, which means it's not quite production quality. The final version you'll have to pay for if you want to keep it.

Notice no Dreamscenes in Windows 7. MS for some reason seems to have dropped that ability.

It was added as a Ultimate update months after Vista went gold. I would assume that they want to run the beta through it's paces before adding that variable.

Be very careful how you insult your internet connection.  Remember, you could always have dial-up, or worse, satellite!
