Question for the Pros from a Sins modding Newb.

I would like to make a random super huge map that has at least 30 suns but only a max of ten planets per sun in a set configuration of 3 terran, 3 desert, 3 volcanic and 1 ice with an additional 5 random systems like asteroid belts and such. Is this possible to do with the Galaxy Forge and if made will it be playable on a C2D E6750 with 2 gigs and an ATI X1950?

In the galaxy forge, the only limit is how much your comp can handle before melting into a pile of goo and burnt circutry. That being said, I don't think I've ever pushed Sins to the crashing/breaking point. Its pretty damn robust.

Yeow! 40 suns and 1100 planets so far and not a hint of slowdown or glitches. GG Stardock!

Try developing all of those planets and having a culture, trade and refinery on each. At that point, I think 1100 planets will cause some serious lag issues. :)

Its not the map that causes the problems, its developing the planets.

I find on my computer (3 years old now, so not the best), once I get past 50 developed planets (where usually the other races have another 50 mostly developed, the game lags noticeably.

I wouldnt even attempt to play 1100 planets. The trade ships alone would be enough to grind the computer to a halt long before you get more than 10% explored.

Ahh this is why I asked if that large a number of suns and planets would eventually lag out the game engine. However I have played a full game on it with 3 hard opponents and it was smooth to the end. Granted I only developed a couple of suns worth of planets and then went all Mordor on the rest of the map and wiped them clean. An up to date system seems to have no issues with super large maps on my system at least. Could you be kind enough to state your system specs so I can make something a little less epic in size but still larger that the stock huge random to publicly distribute so all levels of computers can play on it?  :HOT:

Try defending all of it. :D

It really depends on how many AIs you're playing. A stock 100 planet map filled with 9 AI might already give you a run for your money because so much is going on. But the same with only 1 other AI won't be nearly as demanding. You could probably push a couple hundred planets if you're only playing only a few AI. But the more planets are colonized the worse it gets - the AI takes a lot of things into calculations, and there's a bunch of behind the scenes stuff going on, even if you disable trade ship icons, etc.

SINS can hold an unlimited number of planets, try doing 10,000, it might take a bit to load, and only do like 1-2 fps...but it will work.

Yup. 9 hard ai will lag out the map but not to an unplayable degree it seems. I set up my max cap fleet and support ships with lots of repair stations and warp inhibitors at a choke point one jump from the capitol planet then then went to bed. Next morning the entire map was fully developed by the ai and fierce fighting was happening all over the place. I had lost a cap ship and most of the support fleet but the line had held. Zooming in on a single planet made the fps jump up to almost normal levels but zooming out to the full view brought me down to about 15 fps. All in all not bad but this would probably have killed an older computer I guess. I'll cut the current map in half and see if endgame performs any better. :-D

im playing as the tec against 9 teamed advents on unfair. its intense. the amaont of ships jumping to my system is of the chart and i dont have the ships to defend. my system just barely lags to the point of minor annoyance. im estimating the enemy ships jumping to my star at arond 200 at least. i have maybe 12 cap ships and 25 assorted frigs and cruisers. i think im dead

Perhaps they believe that you join the Unity (On a higher level that they can't perceive yet?) when you die?
