How to edit the game files

i know this is really stupid and its probably out there some where but what tool do you need to edit the .entity files in the game folders?

The files with the game are in a binary format for faster loading. If you want to mod the game, you'll need to get the modding package form the downloads page. It includes both the plain-text reference versions of the files, and a utility to convert them to and from binary.
