A Few Simple Questions

Ok, So I pre-ordered the game a few days back with my xmas money, and certainly am looking forwards to conquering the galaxy a few times over. The game looks fantastic, and my personal thanks to Ironclad and Stardock for actually making something new in a market full of stagnation!

That being said, I have a few questions which I haven't seen on the forums, at least not in the last 8 or 9 pages.

Firstly, to what extent can you name things? I remember reading that capital ships can be named, but what of planets, space stations and the like?

How long do hulks last after a battle, and what ship classes leave debris?

Is there any kind of anomilies or special object within star systems, like abandoned freighters that can be looted, or asteroids with a few things hidden on them, akin to the relics in gal civ 2. I have seen the screenshots with what looks like wormhols on them, anything else like that planned for the release or possible expansions?

Do planet's textures change upon being bombarded from orbit, i.e. mushroom clouds, scorched regions, etc.

Are there different types of planets, like ones that require more research to colonize, or completely unusable ones?

And finally, does anyone else find that the counter to release going temporarily to zero when the site loads is really sadistic?

Naming isn't in Beta 4, so only the devs know...

From what we've been told, debris is one of the things thats coming in release -- I think capitols leave a little bit of debris behind, but that may just be part of the "kaboom" animation.

Pretty much no.

No, but there are some really dramatic nuclear explosions during the bombing process.

Yes. Volcanics give lots of fleet points (since fleet points are being redone, this is something that would have to change...), ice gives crystal, deserts have lots of logistics slots, terrans have lots of population, asteroids are sub-par planetoids, and there are various nuetral bodies like gas giants, asteroid belts, plasma storms, and magnetic storms which can't be colonized.

Roflcopter!

No.

Thanks for the timely replies.

While this seems more or less what I expected, the different planet types and their bonuses certainly is interesting, along with the natural phenomena.

Oh, is there any kind of fallout in the game? Since nukes are used to bombard a planet into submission, is there some kind of negative population growth applied to take into account the nukes?

The TEC bombardment Ships can be upgraded to do so through research. Don't remember what the Vasari ones do.

Never really found this ability useful myself though... If I bombard a planet, I usually don't stop until about the stone age :P

Ah well of course, if the poor SOB you happen to be bombing in any situation or game, you can't stop until they are incapable of so much throwing a stick at you.
