The new model is totally awesome!
I mean i rocks, it really rocks!

Thats the way a spaceship should look like. and really its making all the other TEC capships look bad ^^;
I know that the KOl is the only real warship of the tec, but i really hope the others get an overhaul aswell to match that awesome style!

Go KOL!

Doesnt a game usually go gold only a few weeks before the release date?

and not 3 months before?
End of quote

Gold just basically means a certain number of copies have been pre-ordered by various outlets.

I believe what Yarlen means is that all the features need to be done by December. After that, it's testing testing testing. Finding bugs, tweaking gameplay, adding maps/scenarios/whatever single player we may have. The game needs to go through several QA stages for several companies, etc etc

Sorry, but gold has only something to do with numbers sold/preordered in the music buisness, with videogames the gold status marks the point where the programming is complete and the game is theoretically ready for release:

I like the KOL looking all UBER and the rest of the ships looking 50 years old, makes it follow the storyline well!

4 months is to few time for new models?
Right now even though the KOL looks great it doesn´t really feel like it belongs to the TEC, it looks simply out of league.

its the point

While I love the Sova, it's butt ugly next to the Skirantra (Yes, I did have to look that one up)
its a flying aircraft carrier with minimal upgrades! I love the design, but pretty? eh... it aint supposed to be pretty.
oh really? seeing as the Kol is the only thing that isnt, thats gonna be a hard comment to support.

The only problem now is all the other ships look bad in comparison (especially the Akkan 'ocean liner').

What better ship to convert to a colonizing support ship than a cruise liner? It's not like civilians like to ride on an uncomfortable ship. Great job with the new Kol!

Huh? I WAS talking about the Kol

and I was talking about the Sova.

also makes them more suspicious when you say "hey, time for a cruise!" and stick them on a cramped, stinky boat and phasespace to outer planets.

Go read your own information again

Going "gold" means that its been released to the manufacturers -- it refers to the days when they had to print a CD off a golden "master copy".

And they have 30 days to finish it, because they have to pass several separate QA steps. First the Stardock QA stuff, then the Microsoft stuff for "games for windows" (thats a laugh... Microsoft judging the functionality of other companies products? Whats the phrase about motes in your neighbors eye?), then it can "go gold" and be mass produced.

The Kol is supposed to be a brand new TEC warship design. Not a converted freighter (Dunov), cruise liner (Akkan), garbage scowl (Sova). I'm not sure where the Marza fits into all of this, because she looks like she was built around that BFG raze cannon. So maybe the Marza is a new design as well.

I have to say...

Boo.

There I said it. I like the new model, but it doesn't feel like the TEC what-so-Ever.

Now I realize its the first new ship, but I thought the Kol did that in Spades!

The problem with the old Kol: The hangar direction was overlapped by the front of the ship, looked silly.

The New Kol, has this but the hangar launcher is diagonal, which avoids the issue... but now a big hulking 3 gun is in the way! In addition the weird bottom cannon is offset and looks unnatural. I think it should go on the side to balance out the hangar.

I hope the old Kol survives somewhere as a model we can use.

"I was hoping they would change the model for the Kodiak, but it still looks IDENTICAL to an armored troop transport. The only thing missing are the wheels. This is a ship that needs an update as much as the old Kol did. Simply rounding out the hull a bit and putting a gun or thrusters underneath would do the trick. "

I absolutly agree, god the Kodiak is just a silly design. It looks like a Russian Infantry Fighting Vehicle, everytime I expect some Red army troopers to jump out of it and storm an enemy ship in rocket packs
Yep, just a few design adjustments here and there would make the Kodiak look like a ship!

Oh and if we could get rid of the silly banana clip beneath the Cobalt Frigs that would be great, it looks very un TEC

and the TEC refinery looks more like it would be a Vasari structure.

The new Kol is wicked, i liked the old one alot since it reminded me of the B5 EArthforce Omegas, but the new one is even better.
The rest of the caps are fine, may just need some more textures.
Nice touches like more writing and chiped paint.

I am sure that after the game is released and the devs get a bit of a break that they will release a patch to take care of some of these issues.

people dont seem to get the obvious around here...

thats the POINT, the Kol is the newest of new TEC ships, its the first thing they made from SCRATCH, everything else in the whole TEC fleet is recycled (damn you environmentalists) the Kol though, was engineered from scratch, tis why it looks much better and yet "out of place"
I absolutly agree, god the Kodiak is just a silly design

yeah, if one ship is to be updated it needs to be the kod.

You guys don't seem to realize that this game pretty much needs to be done by the beginning of December. There's not 94 days of development time left, there's less than 30.

Well, then you better get onto animating all those turrets. As it is now is okayish for a Beta, but a game coming out in 2008 can not, under any circumstances, not have animated turrets.

Forget it. Won't happen. Got discussed to death already.

Seriously, Homeworld had animated turrets. And if you want a game of comparable scale, Supreme Commander has animated parts on units. More animated parts than SoaSE's units would need, on many more units. There is absolutely no excuse for not having them. And that's been said from the start.
