<3 the KOL

The new model is totally awesome!
I mean i rocks, it really rocks!

Thats the way a spaceship should look like. and really its making all the other TEC capships look bad ^^;
I know that the KOl is the only real warship of the tec, but i really hope the others get an overhaul aswell to match that awesome style!

Go KOL!

Homeworld doesnt have hundreds of ships? Getting fed up of these worthless comments

Lets put this to rest finally.

Consider a 6 player high unit cap game of HW2, where everyone goes for fighters within 5mins you could easily have 20 squads of 5-6 fighters x 6 players = 600 - 700 fighters plus capitalships plus resource collectors plus rocks. So yes the Homeworld line of games can and does have hundreds of ships + visible objects at the same time.

I'm not an Eve player so I can't comment on that, but I have had 300 ships in an X3 sector at the same time + 1000's out of sector. So yes a space SIM can and does have hundreds of ships + visible objects at the same time.

IC are close I feel to the happy medium between SIM & RTS regarding graphical quality but they aren't quite there yet as some objects are lagging behind others that have reached that standard.

Its not so much that the models aren't as good as they could be, lets not pussy foot about here, its that many of the models aren't as good as they should be. Some make the grade others do not and its a matter of opinion which and I personally do not want to see a fair number of these ships in the final release exactly as they appear now.

If some players have an average PC that needs to scale back on bump mapping, texture detail, polygon counts to keep acceptable frame rates then that needs to be an option.

Dude that is exactly the problem   a game due for release in 2008 should run on a 3yr old PC in a window smaller than a penguins arse 50m underwater.....

...or at least on max graphical settings that is.

Getting fed up of these worthless comments

frankly there has been a huge issue as of recent of people coming in with completely incorrect assumptions. its given spawn to the "its like HW!" and "the vaz are carbon copies through and through" comments, all sorts of dramatic bs. sad thing is it drowns out the expert minority who have an actual point.

*sigh* I've had to fight to avoid using the "noo" word. repeatedly.

Anyone think the Kol looks just a little like the USS Sulaco from ALIENS?
nice catch, there are similarities.
the old Kol looked allot more so with its square front.

Anyone have a screen shot of the old Kol?

No, I don't really think they're very similar.

No, I don't really think they're very similar.

Well if your idea of “very similar” is a straight up copy then no they aren’t very similar. There is definitely an influence or just an unintended similarity.

Well, there's the pointy things at the end. And if you really want, a bulky rear. That's it.

If you want to get picky, you could also point out the "downward" protuberance. That said, the top picture doesn't appear to have the out-ward projecting hangers, or anything close to 'em... And there definitely isn't the "equator line" on the Kol, either.

I would think you need to be pickier to say they are not similar then to say they are. Being similar isn’t being identical, so saying the ship has a hanger here or there doesn’t mean much. I’m talking about the basic profile of the ship.

the old Kol looked allot more so with its square front.

The bow of the old Kol was almost as wide as it was tall and when you put the 3 together the old Kol didn't really look anything like the Sulaco. If not for the scattered antennas in the front there wouldn’t be any resemblance.

With the new Kol the bow is thinner like the Sulaco and the antennas are more boxed in like the Sulaco. The aft section is more of a separate structure like the Sulaco.

Just something I noticed and thought I would share. I’m not saying “OMFG they ripped of that ship.” It’s also not like I’m looking at a piece of toast and seeing the Virgin Mary the ships are similar.

I'm sorry, but I just don't see the similarity. Sure, there are some (limited) commonalities... but they really boil down to the antenna coming off the front. So I guess the Kol looks like an Omega Destroyer, too! (Not to mention who knows how many other sci-fi ships!)

If you want to disagree for the sake of disagreeing that’s fine. If that is not the case see an optometrist, because I can’t even begin to take you seriously on that.

Do take me seriously. And its not an optometrist I'd need, but a neurologist -- I'm probably not processing the image the same way you are, so I don't see the similarity. That fits right in with other stuff I do (I do not process sound right, for example -- I have trouble distinguishing between sounds, and its purely a processing, not hearing, issue).

Well I hope you don’t drive.

If a dev responded and said, “Yes we got inspiration from that ship” you would be like “Oh yeah now I see it.” My comparison is nothing more than the basic profile/layout of the ships. I think you are more hung up on very specific characteristics, so you can disagree. Similar is not the same as identical and I’m not saying they are identical.

No, I wouldn't. Contrary to public opinion, I'm not that bad.

Well I hope you don’t drive.

Sheesh. You didn't listen to what I said. I don't process things in the same way -- not doesn't make it inferior or better, just different.

ur "different" all right
