I downloaded the program, ran it and ... nothing ... it was still running, but I was back on the desktop. I clicked it a few times, again, I would get the minimizing. I put in the nointro line, same effect. Finally, I saw someone posted something about resolution changes. I put mine on highest and it worked! For about 3 minutes. Another open program prompted me and PM closed. Now when I try to play, it says

"Buffer overrun detected

A buffer overrun has been detected which has corrupted the programs internal state. Program cannot continue and must be terminiated"

I'm guessing I need to re-install, but I don't know how. I'm on a 56k so downloading the whole 30 megs isn't an option again. I've included system specs at the bottom.

Also, at the beginning of this post, it says to delete the *.dds file. Which ones? All of them? Please specify.

I am running ...

emachines (Trust me, it's not mine, I swear)
w3080
AMD Athlon XP 3000+
2.16 ghz
448 megs RAM
Windows XP

Lewbowski- This could be a video memory issue. What are your system specs (video card as well).

Jesse- The .dds files they're refering to are the ones created and stored in the polmachine/gfx/ folder. Deleting them all will make the game create a fresh batch...we're working on getting this process automated, though Could you also post specifics on your video card? We're finding that video card memory has alot to do with game failure. If we can get this puppy running with the lowest possible cards we should see alot of the bugginess fixed.

I have an Athlon 1600, Geforce ti4400 128MB video card, 512MB ram, and a SB audigy sound card. Also, now I'm having a new problem, the game starts up, and when I start a single player game, I can't check the ready box for the computer oponent.

Lebowski: A 128MB video card should definatly be enough to run the game. As for the check boxes, we should probably hide those if youre in single player mode...they dont have to be (I don't think they even CAN be) selected when playing against the computer. That screen doubles up for Multiplayer, which is why those ready buttons are there.

Firelord: No, there aren't any codes out for TPM yet. The release schedule has us going gold in May, with the boxed version being released in stores in June.

I'm not exactly sure how to find out what video card, but I think I found it. If this isn't it, can you please post how I can find out? Thanks.

Attempted to download 0.70[b].005 through Drengin.net. I'm unable to launch the game at all, receiving the following error message in a pop-up box titled "PolMachine.exe - Unable to Locate Component":

"This application has failed to start because d3d9.dll was not found. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem."

I have uninstalled and reinstalled twice; the second time, I checked the box for removing saved games etc., and also checked to make sure that the PolMachine subdirectory was completely gone. I've tried to launch the game from the Start menu, from Stardock Central, and by launching polmachine.exe directly; same error message on all attempts.

Is this a game file, a DirectX file, or something else? No path is specified, and I'm not having problems with anything else. I'm running a Dell P4 2.4 GHz laptop with 512 Mb of RAM, an ATI Mobility Radeon graphics card with 32 Mb, XP Home, and DirectX 8.1.

Regarding Post #33 - never mind; it's a DirectX file. Updated to the current version of DirectX and it loads fine.

I did the change in the intro file "no intro" and I get an error it reads Polmachine.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log is being created. I have restarted like 10 times and everytime I get the same error. Very disappointed about this whole issue.

Renegade: Make sure the the startup parameter is nointro with no spaces ('no intro' will cause the crash you noted above). Please let us know if the problem continues after this change.

I still can't play the game. I have uninstalled and re-installed the game. Any ideas on what my problem here might be? Are you planning on releasing another Beta soon?

We plan to release beta 2A this week.

But my guess is that your video card isn't sufficient to run it. You really need at least 8 megs of video ram.  That said, we are trying to get it to work on 8 meg video cards but it may still be pokey at best. It does use a 3D engine.
