Neutral Territories

Will there be 'neutral' or AI territories at the start of the game, to allow people to expand their kingdom before bumping into other players? I don't see any other way to start the game, because if the map ran to full capacity (or about 30,000), nobody would ever conquer anyone else due to the 3-territory safehold.

On that same note, if there are AI territories in the multiplayer version (or at least 'wild' territories controlled by barbarians or wolves), will they have any advanced capabilities like attacking other territories or building up their cities? Or will they just be fodder?

Finally, will there be a circle of 'neutral/wild/AI' territories around your first province, so that you don't immediately bump into your neighbor?

I'm very certain that neutral territories will be the majority at the start of the game. Like you said the 3-territory safehold would guarantee this.. not sure if you won't immediately bump into your neighbors on one side, but it'd be bad design if you couldn't expand at all.

|\/|mmmm ... this would guarentee there would be many different servers to play on, though , because even if the max number of provinces was 30,000, they would only be able to use less than a quarter of that.

On that same topic, here is a suggestion: there could be 2-5 adjacent 'wild' territories surrounding your initial province, and then numerous AI-controlled empires beyond those. The difference would be that the wild or neutral territories would be home only to barbarians and possibly wild animals, whereas the AI-run empires would be multi-provincial, for the most part, and would fucntion like 'filler-empires' that would allow players to expand beyond their initial territories.

I think safe zones are silly if you cant stay alive start over and do it better
And AI territories is not something I would prefer.
You could just go natural letting others military forces pass through your village so they can get to one of their opposing villages
